  • Practice Routines

I've got a bet on with a friend that I'll beat him in the club championship on the 22nd July. He's a huge bandit and I'm really struggling to find some form at the moment but in the heat of the moment out of pure cockiness I bet him a tenner I'd beat him. Ive got 2 hours each wednesday and 4 each saturday up at the golf club for three weeks (until the 22nd of July comes around). How should I divide my time up? I definitely want to get a few long game lessons before then as well as working on my short game. Any ideas?

Any drills for chipping and especially putting that I could incorperate into these practice sessions would also be much appreciated.

    Thanks a lot

    Sam

    Samburk,
Watch the golf channel on SKY (ch 423) Two shows to watch are: Playing lessons from the pros where a camera follows the pro from t to green, and instruction from the pro as he plays. Also golf channel academy which is swing instruction and short game. These programmes are on nightly about 1030. Save your money dont go to the range. Take out a club to the garden after you view these.

    Cheers,
    Robert

My worry is that you have already lost. Before you react let me finish.

You have "fear" or worry over your current ability. This means that there is a great possiblity that you will second guess yourself on the course.

Remember that most golf related fears are irrational, because you (and most others) are not in any physical danger. Therefore the fear should be ignored.

Trust in yourself and your ability, and you will achieve your ability (handicap).

I have attached a link to a translation from the book of five rings:
          http://www.samurai.com/5rings/void/
When you are golfing it is no different than if you were a warrior.

It may be a little bit opaque, but it trys to expain the void/"zone" that is thought about when engaging in physical activity.

          Any comments are always welcomed.
          C.

I'm affraid this Gentleman could be right, If you feel your not ready now
or even close, it isgoing to get worse on the course. For what its worth I
would work on the short game. Thats where I have improved my score the fastest. Andonly use clubs you trust....I.E. i7,i8,i9, wedges..
            Good luck.

So did you win or lose your tenner?

You wont believe this but we both tied for 1st place with nett 67's! We've now got to arrange a playoff at some date to determine the eventual winner.
