    Re: Practice not producing results

Thanks for the encouragement Robert, just one comment.....do you do the same for the driver too? I can't find it, but I thought I read somewhere that the irons and woods are centered on one leg, the driver on the other. Can you apply your advice to the driver also?

I don't know if it's been mentioned on here ( had to skim quickly ) but an EXCELLENT way to practice, is to practice as if you're on the course.

Go to the driving range.Get a scorecard and pick which course you want to play. Say the first hole is 359yards from the whites. Imagine where the fairway would be and where trouble is. Take your time through every pre-shot and just go with it. Say you hit your driver off the tee and it goes for 220-230 (guesstimate) - if the shot is a bad one, dont' retake it, go on to the next shot. To score, basically give yourself a chance to putt. I don't actually score what I got - but I more focus on getting shots in the fairway and greens in regulation.

You have to have a pretty good imagination and plenty of self discipline for those bad shots. I think it'll make you focus on making good shots but also have the mentality to just go with it.

I now try to hit the ball with the same tempo and rhythm, whether it is driver or wedge. Which club do you strike best? probably wedge or 9. Well, when you have diferrent clubs in your hand, tell yourself it is a wedge and hit it like so. You will be amazed at the result. Dont put yourself under pressure by having to make a shot. Think rhythm and tempo rather than result. The more angry you get, the more tense you will become which has a knock on effect and will only make your game become unenjoyable. I hope this gives you an idea.

Rob this is perfect advice, this is the same problem I was having.

I agree but what I would say is that your natural rythmn and tempo may be fast or at least need to be faster than you have now

No pro swings the club 'slowly'. This has been proven with the Tour Temp stuff. Even Ernie who looks smooth and slow has a swing which lasts about 1 second. But they swing all their clubs at the same tempo nice and relaxed, with minimum of moving parts and stay in their postures. You can still swing with a good tempo in a relaxed manner around your core and this is half the battle

Waggling before every swing takes the tension out of my arms and hands. I'm talking a really loose fluidy waggle. Just my experience ..

Nice Post Greg, I find myself that I start thinking about the score I want to post rather then the individual shots during the round. I know my best scores have come when I take every shot by itself. Even last night I started off with 2 Birdie's and got way a head of myself and a couple errant shots later ended up with an 88 which is the second worst round this year.]
