  • The Evil Divot!

I've posted recently on a few problems I've had. I have also had a lesson recently. Among the the problens are taking the club too far inside, keeping the head still and behind the ball until impact (I usually let the head slide foward with the swing), realeasing the hands too soon ( I think I have solve that by loosening the grip and letting my wrists hinge freely. I can really feel the release doing that). The pro liked my set up. Said I had good posture, grip and alignment.

So why, why, why, no matter what I do, does my divot come from outside-in on a 30 to 45 degree angle. No matter what adjustments I make the club comes from the outside. I look down and there is the ugly divot. My shots fade and slice. It really kills me with the driver. I have become completely disfunctional with that club. One thing I have done to straighten the shots out is to really exaggerate a strong left hand grip. I turn it way over to where I can see all knuckles, the back of my left hand is facing straight up. I hit some solid feeling shots doing that but still the divot shows I am not coming in square to the ball. Help!

    Re: The Evil Divot!

I remember trying to fight a slice on all my irons for the longest time - now occasionaly I only slice my driver.

I think the fix was when I changed my grip. Left hand grip stays the same for me, but the right hand is different. Basically I make it so my right palm faces the sky and I just hold the club from there. This grip helps me automatically turn over rather than forcing like before.

i had this exact same problem and it basically came down to my grip 90%mostly, and my stance 10%.

totally agree with matt10. i think you have a weak grip. left hand is fine, but your right hand is rolled too far over. turn your right hand around so your palm is near facing teh sky.

also, go to the driving range and practise hitting the ball inside out, not outside in which is what you are doing... you will also find that your old grip will promote an outside in swing path.

i changed my grip to exactly this only 2 weeks ago. after 2 games i'm hitting my average scores, but i knwo it's on it's way down. feels weird at first, but just practise.

      best of luck.

oh. and just another note. since i changed my grip i can now control a draw a lot easier, as well i gained about 20m on my drive and i hit most of them straight now.

Agreed Aussie, I can control a nice draw with my irons - but my natural shot is straight with maybe a slight fade. My drives are straight, but need alot of work with consistency.

Thanks for the replies. I found the answer to my problem when I stumbled upon the following thread:

            http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/g...mpossible.html

The cure was getting my downswing on an inside out path which proved to be more difficult to understand than I thought.

              Hi,

This problem must be the most common in golf and posted on this site. I have suggested this video lesson many times. Have a look and let me know if you think it helps you?
