  • Soft, slight push

I recently received a lesson from a pro who has really helped me out. We really worked on flattening my swing to a normal one plane type swing. I can REALLY feel the difference and feel a lot more powerful. We created a lot of this by making sure I was turning my shoulders at beginning of backswing and thinking about my right elbow being below my left at the top (which it still isn't but if I can get the close to even that would be awesome :-)

However, today at the range I was hitting several balls that started a little right of the target and just kind of weakly faded off to the right. Not really a slice but just a weak shot. The interesting thing is when I switched to the driver everything was turning over and looked really nice. My thinking is I am not clearing the left shoulder out of the way and it is not letting me release through. IS THIS RIGHT?

Why do you say it's weak? Is it the right distance?

I've always THOUGHT I had a push but the other day my buddy said I was aiming to the right! When he stood behind looking up my intended target line he had me move what I thought would have sent my aim to the left. But lo and behold off it went in the correct direction. Setup is very critical and sometimes your perception of what's right is wrong.

FWIW it could be something very simple.

given all things in your swing being equal, if you hit the driver straight, but push the irons I would check ball position, maybe you have it too far back, would check alignment as james said, then I woudl look towards the shafts and lie angle on the clubs,
