  • Weight transfer problem

OK, here goes. It seems that one of the biggest problems that I struggle with is proper weight transfer during the swing. When I do this I have one of two results. I sometimes will straighten the back leg just before impact with the ball causing me to top the ball. Other times, when I do get through the ball I wind up on my back leg causing a horrible slice. Does anyone have any suggestions or drills to help prevent this?

    Thanks

where is the ball in your stance, check this in a mirror because where you think it might be may not be where it is.

Of course in a 1PS there is NO weight transfer

So one less thing to worry about

        Re: Weight transfer problem

check out Greg Willis walking drill to get the feel of weight transfer.
To get to his site, hit "staff" above header and click on his name.

Aside from that, it sounds as if you are reverse pivoting. If your right leg straightens your weight is probably being transferred to the foward leg on the back swing and then transfers to the rear leg on the foward swing. Should be the opposite. On the back swing, you should feel the weight being transferred to the inside of the right foot. On the foward swing, you should end up in a balanced position on the foward foot with the rear foot off the ground on the toe. You can also try Gary Player move - step over the foward foot with your rear foot on the foward swing to get the idea of transfer.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out the stuff you suggested. I guess I should have mentioned that I have limited range of motion in a couple of areas due to an auto accident I was in a few years ago. My right ankle is pretty much non-existant and the heel bone is out of place and my left hip has less rotation than normal. This is what really confuses me, it seems that I would "favor" the right foot instead of planting on it.

            GW,

I'm assuming that you are right handed. Consider at address opening your left foot out so it is pointing to 11 o'clock. Also work on finishing the follow through and holding that position until the ball first hits the deck.

            Good hitting
