  • Releasing the Club through impact.

Just this season I started to hit a weak fade. I beleive that one of my main problems is that I'm not squaring my club face at impact.
On my weak swings I can feel my hands just dragging the club through impact, instead of releasing it. When I do it right, I can see a major difference in my power and ball flight.
I'm really fighting consistency right now, and I was wondering if there are any drills that help you release the club.

    hopefully this makes sense
    Thanks

    Get an impact bag
Start downswing without a ball present and see where the bottom of your arc is for irons and woods; this spot is where you want your hands leading the clubhead.
Poor release can come from poor grip, poor weight transfer, rushing downswing, or not having hands ahead with lag.
I don't think one should over do it since good release usually comes from sound fundamentals naturally unhinging the wrists/hands.
    I'm just giving my opinion.

Have a look at this website

      http://www.davidblairgolf.com/

You should find an article on it called "All about speed" that was published in Golf International. There are a couple of good drills in it to train the release.

So true! It's a chain of events that leads to proper release and impact.

Put a headcover or towel under your left armpit. Keep it there throughout the swing until the very end. On the follow through, you should feel the left arm folding up - if you do you are releasing the club properly. If the headcover falls out early in the follow through, you are blocking your left arm and it is disconnecting from your upper body - preventing it from folding up. Hope this helps mike.

In a 2ps if youre hitting weak fades it might be one of two things. One, check you shifting your weight properly on the backswing and secondly on the downswing you need to make sure your arms are faster than your body. Try and feel as if you swing hard left with your arms whilst keeping your shoulders quiet, this will give you more arm speed, slow down the upper body and get everything in synch. Will also give you a real zip through release

The trick is learning to swing the arms without throwing the shoulders forward

I think the one and two plane swing are myths; they simply do not exist. As soon as one thinks he fits one category, he becomes another. Jim Hardy has made money out of worrying us all about this difference but its a sham.
Sorry, Pnearn but for some shots its a one planer, and for others its a two planer, so why worry.
Here's the real deal: good fundamentals, smooth tempo, and lots of practice on the right things.
End of story----with all due respect.

I dont agree that they are myths nemesis, I think they identify two types of swing and are good references for players (there are many more types that dont fit ..like Furyk and Couples). Many players are a hybrid of the two (I think I am for example). However I personally believe there is no one identikit golf swing, however many of these methods you try (TGM, 1PS, SimpleSwing etc) .. you need to learn by feel and good teaching and will probably end up with a mixture of all these things

                Amen to that

                  hi all
i agree with pnearn that there are many diffrent types of swing and its not important how you swing back but only how your club is through impact and if you can repeat it that really matters

Exactly my point, I will not debate this suffice it to say we disagree but which one of us plays to the lower handicap?

Thanks for some of the drills. I'll definately try some of them out at the range tonight.

Now I’m confused. Peter Jacobson believes in Hardy’s one-plane swing and HE plays to a lower handicap than both of you, so the one-plane swing CAN’T be a myth, right?
