  • Wiffle Balls

After a disappointing bucket on the range, I took my sorry swing to the park and tried hitting those little hollow wiffle balls. I found that these balls really demonstrate the weaknesses in my swing because when I hit it wrong, the ball goes WAY off. Likewise, when I hit one correctly, you can tell immediately. The problem was that the park grass was really tall and I felt like it was interfering with my practice at times.

First question: do you recommend practicing with the wiffle balls?

Second question: if you do recommend practicing with the wiffle balls, can you give me some basic rules so that I can make the most of my time?

    Thanks,
    Jay

    Back garden practice

    Hi jgmumm,

Air balls (as we call them in the UK) are a great practice aid, especially for the back garden. You can't break the next door neighbours greenhouse!!!

Seriously though, I find that these balls are more benefitial with short irons - up to 8 iron. I find that when you start getting higher than that the flight on the ball is not very consistent. A tip here, hit the balls from a harder surface than long grass. I take out an old door mat and hit the balls off that, it tends to help give a much more realistic ball flight.

    Thanks
