Re: Watching the Ball at impact

i used to have the same problem (and still do time in time) but the most efective way to fight this bad habit is think or assume the same rule of thumb when you are putting !!! just make you stroke and don't see where you go!!!

Re: Watching the Ball at impact

I try to keep my face and head steady on the downswing until the right shoulder (trailing shoulder) touches my chin and pulls it around.

Repeat this move many times during practice to engrain it into your swing.

Re: Watching the Ball at impact

I took a series of 5 weekly lessons and the instructor had me early on focusing on one dimple on the ball. If your eyesight is not that good then pick a logo on the ball. Place that focus point towards the inside pointed at your trailing foot. This will help your concentration, will keep your head still and will also help you swing from the inside rather than coming over the top and hitting from the outside in. Hope this is of value to you.

Re: Watching the Ball at impact

          Well,
I got to play today and it seems that shootin4par has made a pretty good diagnosis of the problem. Most of the divots that I left were on an outside in direction. uggh!!! I appreciate all the input, I'm gonna give some of the suggestions a try and see what happens. Maybe Golfseeker's suggestion of keeping the logo pointed towards the trailing (right) foot will help with both problems. I guess the next thing is to work on getting the swing path going in the right direction (inside-out) what's a good way to make the transistion??? This is definitely the most difficult game that I've ever played (and I use that term loosely )

            Hi,
Still working on the swing. IF you could, take a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0YjVQQ_Pp0 and let me know what you think. I know I need to work on keeping the left arm straight (I wasn't really aware that I was allowing it to break that much....Thanks for any help in advance. 1 more quick question...Where do I need to post this to allow the other pros to take a look at it???

              Hi,

Your link is fine, we can see your swing.

yes, you are collapsing your left arm in the backswing, try keeping it straighter but don't worry about a slight bending, that's normal.

You do have a general problem with this collapsing of the elbows on the back and downswing, this will be creating a big power leak. On the backswing create more width and keep your right elbow closer to your right side at the top, on the downswing keep your arms fully extended through the shot and your left elbow in to your left side on the follow through.

Please look at this video lesson, it should help you with the problem:

                hi
just what brianw said and i see your left foot lifts, try and keep that on the grond it will stop you swaying and give you more resistance when you swing back.

                  Bill & Brian,

Thanks so much for the input. I had the opportunity to show my video to a friend and he gave me the same advice. I went to the range today and tried to incorporate the wider swing and release my left hip a little more on the follow through. I was amazed at how much difference it made. I was hitting my 5 iron about 20-25 yards farther with a really nice high ball flight. I was pretty excited with the results. WOO HOO!!!! I'll keep at and hopefully I can keep giving progress reports.

Re: Watching the Ball at impact

Jack Grout used to do the same to Jack Nicklaus to keep his head from moving; Nicklaus on tour used to turn his head to the right a little to keep his head from moving and to stay behind the ball.
                        Two things I would do:
                        1. Make sure you are staying behind the ball at impact
                        2. Try imagining on downswing you are pulling the handle of the club down the ball to target line, this should remedy it. Someone once said there are very few shots that you don't want your hands ahead. One shot is the flop.
