  • The late Hit

I had been doing well with the late hit and had been hitting long and straight, then, I lost it. Can anyone give me some drills for regaining the late hit again.

      What's up

      Tom,

How are you? Haven't heard from you in a while. Glad to see it went well for a while.

I was doing some experimenting with the swing vs the hit. Winsor got me started on this with his post. I wanted to capture the differences. I found a delay feel that you are describing happens when the handle is turned into the ball. I put a little more pressure on the left hand ring and pinky and it relieved the pressure on the remainder of the fingrers. The delay just happens automatically.

You are probably doing one of two things: 1. Not cocking your wrists on the backswing. If this is the case, a drill would be:
Take your stance and cock your wrists, then take a backswing with your wrists precocked. Then take a normal through swing. This will give you a sense of how the wrists cock.

      2. Casting from the top. If you find you are cocking your wrists on the backswing correctly, you must also release them correctly on the through swing. Drill you must get your right shoulder turned from a high position to a low position then release.

Don't worry Tom, You may be engaging your brain a bit too much. Once you get a repeatable motion, don't think about doing it, let you subconcience mind execute the swing.

Also it takes 21 days to make a habit, so once you feel it for 21 days, on the course or practice you should have it down pretty good.

Good luck and keep it in the short grass,
