    i feel as if i take the club face back square for the first foot or so, and i take it back slow like am brushing it back, then its more my shoulders and hips that turn taking my arms with them, i try and keep the "Y" to about my waist where my hands cup the club up. i really only think of that first foot and count , s-l-o-w then back then through.
    i really dont think of the swing other than the press forward and that first foot and having a high finish. i think that having a high finish stops you slowing down through impact.
    what about you what do you do.

      I am not sure if this thread is open to general opinions, sorry in advance if I am imposing.

      Firstly, I guess what ever works for you works and that's good.

      I do have problems following some techniques discussed though and forward pressing or hands artificially ahead of the ball are some of them. I can see the use of forward press as a trigger to start the swing (As Shootin suggests) but I can see no merit in it's ability to produce powerful or straighter shots.

      Pushing the hands forward of the ball is de-lofting the clubface, every degree forward, the face will be de-lofted by the same amount, why would you wish to do that? why not use a less lofted club.

      I ascertain that the most important relationships to good contact are the position of the grip, feet, sternum, arms and head at setup. How does pushing the hands artificially ahead of the ball improve any part of the swing mechanics or setup? Surely your swing will not return to this position at impact?

      I am only asking these questions out of a degree of confusion on my part, not as any demeaning criticism of the points made previously.

        Hi Brain,

        I think what is happening here is exactly what you mention in another thread, its a trigers to start the swing. A part of the pre-shot routine.
        If Im wrong guys sorry but I see it this way.

          yes i think of it as a trigger or the movement that starts my swing, but as a result i seem to hit the ball better and sweeter, i go over to the football parks and hit maybe 100balls most days if its not raining, scoland here so rains a lot lol.
          i his say 20 balls with the forward press, i move hand more forward on a wedge than say a 5 iron, with a wedge its sometimes 1 inch to 2 inches forward, with a 5 iron maybe 1/2 an inch, with me it was a start to my swing, but i found that i must come back near to the real loft of the club as i still hit it high, but like robert it feels like you hit the ball cleaner, its more a feeling you get when you swing good and i know i get that feeling when i forward press. as robert says he does too, so there must be something that gets the clubface back to impact just right for us both that dont happen when we set up normal and just swing, i have tried both types together and i do hit some shots the same but i get a better feeling with the press first and it makes you feel you are going to hit a good shot before you even start your swing. it is had to explane as its more a feeling you get that you will hit the ball where you aim.
          i sugest you go and try it hit say 10 balls with your normal swing and then 10 with the way roberts does it or the way i do and see for yourself. i bet you get the feeling robert and i get and cant explane why you do.
