Re: How do I practise to develop a consistant draw

I've used these setup techniques and was able to get the ball to draw. If you're trying to get it to happen with ease, try to do it with a 5 or 6 iron off a tee. Make sure you're path is going in to out and you have a fairly strong grip (3 knuckles or so) to ensure you close the clubface at impact. You'll know you've got it when the ball goes off to the right and spins back to the left a bit -- if it's too much try to weaken the grip a tiny bit at a time. I agree it's more difficult with an 8 or 9 iron etc but even with one of those if the ball doesn't draw much in flight it will certainly spin to the left when the ball hits the ground which can come in handy.

Also if you're closing your stance a bit, you're actually moving the ball forward in you stance relative to your swing, so you need to make sure you sweep through impact. To draw the ball I think you need to have good ball striking. If the ball doesn't make that lovely "pfffft" sound off the club face, you're not going to make the ball draw.

      Thanks James,
I'm now working on the various suggestions and am getting results. More work to be done! I'm feeling pretty confident now that I'll succeed.

        hi freebooter
well done, keep working at it and you will soon have a shot in your bag that you can go back to again and again, also try and learn a fade too and just set every thing up the other way, open stance and aim just left of target. having both shots give you more range with all your clubs, i hit a 5 iron 170 yard with a fade and 177 with a draw. my 4 iron i hit 183 with a fade so i sort of cover all the distances. like gary player said the more i pratice the lucky i get.
when you go to the range dont just hit balls, try and shape a shot, see it in your mind first.
        best of luck
