I had a little fool around on the course today using a 10 fingered/baseball style grip (I was playing terribly and the round turned into practise) I normally use the overlap/vardon grip and find lately that it doesn't feel powerful anymore. My brother plays off 10.5 and he changed to the 10 finger about a year ago and now he swears by it, says he'll never change back. He seems to think he has more control over the face of the club and reckons he gets more power and distance too. My first couple of drives were big hooks but I hit some very sweet irons and they did seem a bit more penetrating than usual. What's the opinion out there on this grip? What are the pros and cons? Has anyone ever changed to this grip and had more success, consistency and what sort of level are you playing to? I'm interested in any opinions. I play off 11.5 by the way (That's the 1st handicap I've had, I joined a club a few weeks ago)

Re: 10 finger grip
Jesper:
I tried the 10 finger grip late last year ( I was having a terrible round so figured I'd try something new). I just couldn't get use to it although I was hitting the ball better. Have you tried an Inter-locking grip? The interlocking grip allows me to feel my arms as a unit and I swing a lot better with it.. If you find the 10 finger grip works for you; go with it.

Re: 10 finger grip
Nothing wrong with a 10 finger grip, as long as the hands are kept close together. A 10 finger grip will work well for smaller hands, older hands, or hands where arthritis might be involved. And, as posted above as long as it works for the golfer iusing it. I use an over lap grip myself, but at times I do use the 10 finger grip for shorter pitch/chip shots for more control. GJS

Re: 10 finger grip
I had a 10 finger grip when I started the game. I have moved to interlock. One thing I found with 10 finger grip is sometimes the hands dont act as a team. Some times the alignment of one or both hands are off. With interlock I found more consistensy.

Re: 10 finger grip
I started golf with the interlocking grip but just recently I have changed to the 10 finger grip. I find this latter one gives me more control and power over all of my clubs. I like to slide the right hand fore finger down the grip and spread my hands out though maintaining contact so they work as one unit.
