i was looking at one of your swings greg (iron) and i saw that the shaft and your left arm was quite close to your right shoulder and tried that and i never felt my shaft load so much before and really felt the power in my body load the shaft. i was always taught as a tall person i should try to have a wide arc. so i have always had a wide arc, but i tried some compact swings and it felt soo good and i was really able to load my shaft. turns out that i wasn't as connected as i thought i was with my wide arc. so swinging a few times with a realy comapct swing (shaft almost touching the shoulderat the top) really helped me feel what people mean by connection. then i slowly worked my arc wider and wider whilst keeping that connection, my swing is so much better now. so if you have problems connecting then i would suggest you try a smaller arc and work on loading your shaft and really feeling your connection then after you feel comfterble with that then you can widen your arc. thanks again greg

Re: compact swing vs wide arc
Luke,
Was that the time we taped our shots at the range? That wasn't too long ago, glad you got to look at those again...An I remember you working on your Fyurk-o-rama at that time. Ya, that connection was something I was taught early on that I swear by. I think sometime I do it too much and don't get extended enough, but when I do try for more extension, all hell breaks loose.
What I find is that the only thing that I have to do to create my max-arc, is in my very first move. I make sure that nothing moves ...nothing ...except my shoulders back to about a foot or so (depending of the shot type). Then, the rest just takes care of it's self (easy for me to say I know - and without trying to get into too much detail) by having everything completly connnected to this point makes an enormous difference in the arc width. You will feel more streatch on the lower-leading back to the leading shoulder.

Re: compact swing vs wide arc
yea, it was that tape (i have looked at them before, but jsut looked at the wrong things and never noticed your "connectedness"). furyk is no more, if i could play everyday it might work, but i had too many pauses and had to "relearn" it and would learn it different everytime so i diecided to go more traditional. i agree being connect makes the swing so much more effortless and smooth. i have perchases a camera since then to so i can work on my swing, maybe i will post it so you can see the improvmentLast edited by lgskywalker37; 09-18-2006, 05:40 AM.

Re: compact swing vs wide arc
i tried out both swing today and i actaully get more distance off of the compact swing, the more bent my right arm is the srtonger i can straiten it when releasing and i get more distance than when i have a wide arc (even when i stay conencted) i can't straiten my right arm as forcfully in the release and i don't get as much distance. i was looking at sergios swing http://www.golfdigest.com/search/ind...206sergio.html
and he seems to have a wide arc back, but in his downswing his shaft goes from real far from his right shoulder to real close, then he unwinds, i have never seen that before. is that benificial to go from wide back to narrow or is that a waste of a move and ineficient? or is that where he gets all his lag from?
