  • how's my swing now greg? and anyone else

iwas looking at my swing, it is still pretty wierd looking, i tend to slide my hips. at first i though i was casting way early but then i compared it to to other vids and my hands seem to start uncocking at about waist high which is good, but since it is behind my body because of my slide i thought it looked early. i konw that i shouldn't slide but i find if i turn and keep a noraml turn it hurts my knees so i changed it to a free sliding swing. i jsut have to put the ball a bit further back than normal. ir also looks a bit closed, but i think that is just the camera angle, but not sure. it also apears that i fan it open but i am just cupping my left wrist so that i can hit "homeruns", so that is on purpose my current carry for my drive is over 260 with range balls, then it hits the woods ad i don't know how far it goes. i also noticed i straiten my spine angle a bit ont the downt the line video. i think that is why i hit out to in sometimes

Looks like you have a problem in how you saved the files to disk. Try again, use a different codec maybe?

Re: how's my swing now greg? and anyone else

Well there a few things here,

first up, you don't seem to have any weight shift, your weight needs to move in the same direction the club is moving, because your weight didn't move onto the right foot going back, when you came down you can see how it causes your head to fall back and down, this will cause some fat shots, tops and fanning open or failing to sqaure the face.

Next, on your takeaway, you are doing what is called laying off the club, the club falls behind you, rather then staying in front of your chest, which causes the weak position at the top and excessive rolling of the arms going back. This is also why you overswing with no wrist cocking. Remember the wrist only cock one way up/dpwn, not side to side.

half way back, your hips have turn as much as your shoulders so very little if any torque or tension is created a major power source, try to get your shoulder/arms/hands moving first maintaining your hips square until forced to move. might help if you widen your stance a little, and pitch yout knees in slightly, then as you move into the right leg, keep the flex and anchor that right knee, turning around it.

I can't really see your grip, but a poor grip can also cause alot of what I see.

All in all not bad, not the worst I have seen, but you do reverve pivot and lay the club off, that must be fixed.

Try to get you some swing sequence photo of a professional, and work in front of a mirror trying to match up to the pro at different points, just to give you an idea.

You can also get into your address position then cock your wrist and the club and put it onto your right shoulder keep your hands in front of you and clubface square, now turn your upper body 90 degrees moving your left shoulder over your right knee, club will be pointing parellel to ball target line. Now push hands and club straight up vertical until your left arm is fairly extended, not stiff, just extended, this is the top of swing position you should strife for, and the correct position.

there is probably more, but that should keep you busy for awhile..lol,,good luck

Re: how's my swing now greg? and anyone else

thanks for your time gonavy, sounds like i have a lot to work on, i thought my swing was good with driver distance of 260ish. ha, shows what i know.

as far as my no hip/shoulder turn or X factor, i know i don't that is on purpose to have a freeer swing, i find it hard on my knees to restict my hip turn, that is why i bend my knees in a bit.

            thanks again

Shouldn't be any pressure on the knees restricting the hip turn, unless you as I said you don't shift the weight, because then your putting torque on the legs, people get the wrong idea on weight shift, simply moving the left shoulder over the right knee moves the weight, think about it, the heaviest part of your body is the upper trunk and head, thats what moves not trying to slide back then turn, that would torque the knees some, which looks like what you do a little, at the top of the swing your hands arm almost disappear from the front view and your right shoulder is over your left knee, thats a reverse pivot.

I included a picture to give you a better idea of what I am talking about, note the yellow line his head and shoulder are behind the ball and the red line show how he leans hips have remain fixed over ball upper body moved to right. Compare this to yours and you can see you don't have this lean, actually you lean the other way and your hips moved right along with your body. Hope this helps.

Re: how's my swing now greg? and anyone else

there is one thing i noticed after reading about tush line..... the reason my hips go forward is because i am not maintaing my tush line and my body can't go around my left leg so it pushes it forward to make room for my right ar to get through.

skywalker, I am working on EXACTLY what gonavy is talking about after gaining a better understanding of it on WWW.BRIANMANZELLA.COM In watching your swing on video, he has nailed it on the head. Most people have the misconception that the head remains still in the back swing, that can be a DEATH move. It is not too hard to learn how to get that left shoulder behind the ball but in order to do that you have to let the head move behind the ball as well.
