  • need help quick

Yesterday I like totally lost my swing during my round. I am a 4 handicap and I shot a 45 on a relatively easy course. I was hitting nothing but popups with my driver and they weren't going straight either. I think I might have a weight transfer problem but I am not sure. And then when I didn't pop them up.....they were huge slices. I am open for as many suggestions as possible. I guess it could have just been a bad day but I am just worried I won't get my swing back in time for my match today. I guess I might need some quick fixes. If anyone has any suggestions....it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check your basics- grip aim stance posture.

I had a problem with my driver as well recently. I too was hitting it too high at times. I also had this with my irons as well, they where going to high as well, and I would desribe them as ballooning. I had recently bought John Jacobs DVD's, which enabled me to diagnose a cure.

The high shot was caused the angle of attack on the ball. I was hitting down too steeply on it. What I did was move the ball further forward in my stance to promote a more sweeping motion. I also did this with my driver. Result was on Sunday night I shot two over par gross for nine holes. Ball flight was much better.

An exercise Jacobs gave for the high to the right shot was this. Address the ball ensuring sound fundamentals. Then raise the club head off the ground about a foot or so. Swing from this position and hit the ball. This should help to flaten out your angle of attack.

      1) 1st thing I would is have someone check your grip, alignment and posture.

      2) A quick fix, hoover the driver head, this will shallow out your swing.

you must be swinging over the top and too steep, actually both go together.

Work on getting your downswing on plane and from the inside, a few simple drills:

Imagine your left shoulder is against a wall at the top, you will now have to drop your arms and bring your right shoulder under your chin, stopping you from leading the downswing with the shoulders.

Imagine the ball is teed under a low shelf around 6 inches high and you have to hit the ball out from under it.

        Check alignment, grip and relax.

Brian, I very good visual key for stopping the cast at the top. I've never heard of it before and I've worked on plenty to prevent it.

One visual key I'm working on currently is that my hands on the downswing can not cross over/go forward of the swing plane line. Understand?

How did you go today Billy?

            Hi Nicole,

The shoulder against the wall was one I picked up from Jack Nicklaus.

Yes I understand your concept of hands and swing plane, I also use this but I like to imagine a horizontal line passing from the target through the ball and on behind me, as I swing down I try to ensure the butt end of the club traces along this line to the point of release, this keeps the hands and club on plane and also the hands in front of the club head.
