HELP ME! Lost 10 yards in 1 week. Just ain't there. The ball is online, and I am still playing my slight draw. Here is what I notice....

    - finishing a little high
    - feels like my right hip is going right AT the ball instead of rotating towards the target.
    - feeling a little weight on my right foot
    - maybe a little reverse c going on
    - always fought a forward lunge or slide

When I stand and rotate back and forward slowly, the weight transfer feels nice. Hips are clearning, weight is shifting, shoulders are parallel or slightly closed at impact.

    So...
    1) Anything I can do to get this back under control?
    2) Can the cause a big drop in power?

    and off topic...

    3) I play REGULAR flex steel shafts now. My pro told me its time to go to STIFF. He said I am missing right due to the regular flex. I have giving my father my clubs and just bought rac OS2s with steel stiff on ebay, nice price too! Could I see any distance gains with stiff shafts?

    Thanks as always!!!!!!

    Re: Distance GONE...

Make sure you are maintaining width in your takeaway and through impact, also check you are not pushing your right knee outwards on the backswing. Both of these are major power leaks.

Regarding the stiff shafts: Stiff shafts should be used by players with fast swing speeds to reduce the bending and lag in the shaft. If your swing is slow you may loose distance with them, if it is fast it will assist with keeping the face square at impact.

You bring up something I just dont understand....

Width in a swing. Can you explain some more?

As for the right knee....do you mean straightening the knee at the top of the swing? I focus on maintaining right knee flex and building tension in my right side.

My swing speed is 95-100 with my driver. I also have a quick tempo. My pro said that stiff shafts in my iron will get rid of some of that lag and add more "kick" at impact. Agree or disagree?

Thanks for the solid response, looking forward to your reply.

Is your ball flight abit to high?

Because it could be your are scooping slightly because you are finishing in an reverse c, also regular shaft lost me distance once and i changed to stiff shafts because regular shaft was making my ball flight to high and loseing roll.

I hit it decently high. My ball doesn't seem to have any penetration. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the stiff will aid with a slightly lower flight.

I really try to hit down on the ball and make contact with the ball 1st, then the turf.

I'm really not sure if this is valid, but have you gained weight or loss flexibility?

I used to hit my 7iron 150-160, now it's 140 - I gained about 5 pounds (first time ever not playing soccer or being apart of a team dynamic) and noticed that I wasn't as flexible as before.

Now I'm getting back into shape, slowly and am pretty sure I'll be able to gain the yards back.

Just wondering, apologize if I'm way off base.

I have put on some pounds, lost a little flexibility, and some strength. However, 2-3 weeks ago I was hitting the ball fine. I KNOW when I start getting back into the gym full time (wife and I just had a baby 2 months ago, finally got a week in the gym this week) that I will GAIN distance. But I should be able to hit it FARTHER than ever.

When I was in college, I was in great shape. But I didnt hit the ball very far. Once I started learning the right way to hit the ball, thats when I gained distance.

I think you are 100% in thinking that any added body weight or loss in flexability could cause distance loss.

My game plan: Loose 15 lbs by next golf season (March 1st 07), increase shoulder turn, regain my 6-pack (ditch the keg).

              Thanks

Please look at these two video lessons they show two major power leaks in the golf swing and how to combat them..

At a total guess are you picking the club up quickly instead of getting good width early and getting right behind the ball? Thus you are maybe getting a bit steep on it hence why you finish high and are leavingg weight on the right foot? Maybe try exaggerating the low and slow movement away from the ball by placing a tee 18 inches behind the ball on the target line and making sure you brush it away. Get that left shoulder right behind the ball
