  • Golfer's Elbow....(great...)

So my recent post regarding my loss in distance...I did fix that. I was hanging back on my right leg and pushing my right hip towards the ball. My weight was going to my left toe and not to my left heel. I smoothed that out nicely and got my distance back.

HOWEVER, of course, at of NO WHERE I get his extremely sharp pain in my right wrist. Right around the area of that bone that sticks out on the right side of your right wrist. Certain positions push a tendon onto that bone and it hurts, hurts A LOT! I can move it, but it hurts like hell to swign a golf club.

Obviously I know what I have to do to heal...rest, ice, Aleve. But I am always up for suggestions.

Anything that I am doing WRONG that could cause this? Only thing recently that I have changed with my grip or hand action is using the right palm to push down on my left wrist to help get if flat at the top. This is also helping me get a wider takeaway.

    Thanks...

    You are doing 2 things:

    1) Going for more distance
    2) Making grip changes

So yes, new pain can easily occurr. Your old swing had your hands tuned to this old set of positions. You have now overdone the new positions. There is nothing else but to rest to help this pain. Fighting through the pain will only make it worse and even worse yet, could do permanent damage.

Chip and putt until you heal.

Thats what I thought. I was trying to gain distance with my arms than fixing the problem with my hips. All I really had to do was stand more upright at address. You know what, I got some questions for you that I am going to PM you. Hope you can respond.

      Thank you.

        just an idea.

Do you work a lot on the PC and use the mouse a lot?
Around six months ago I had the same problem with my wrist and went to the doc. He suggested that the problem lies with the way I held the mouse and said I should get one of these special mouse pads that support the wrist. after a couple of weeks the pain was gone.

        all the best,
        Ian

I type 200 emails a day and spend 6-7 hours a day infront of the computer.

I brought in one of those mouse pads that support the wrist today.

I think that aids the injury, along with my weightlifting.

I had this problem when I first started playing golf, I kept coming back before it fully recovered and of course I would do the same thing again that caused it in the first place. I ended up with chronic golf elbow and had to give it away for a full year to let it heal. I still get it slightly from time to time. I believe I got it because I rotated the left arm in my backswing which made me lead into impact with the left hand causing all sorts of problems including golf elbow. I am not sugesting this is your prolem but I wonder if there might be food for thought.

Finally got to play. Hurt, but that to the point of which I could not play.

I really think the main cause is gripping too hard with my right hand. With the grip in my fingers, if you squeeze your fingers too hard, you really put stress on tendons and the "bottom" (the part by that bone that sticks up) of your wrist.

Its not as bad as it was, but its not great. Ice and some Aleve. But I dont want to take too much Aleve.

However, I played pretty darn well Sunday. The lighter grip helped me stay inside and release the clubhead. I hit some great drives and didnt slice a single ball. I did block one. But I will take a long block over a weak slice.
