  • Swinging inside

I recently posted a thread saying that I had a tendency to slice the ball right.
I now know this is caused by taking the club inside on the way back. I am getting into the set position ok but seem to be unable to stop myself swinging around my body (really flat) rather than rotating my shoulders.

Does anyone have a tip on how to make sure I stay wide and high through the swing rather than low and flat as seems to be happening.

    Thanks

could be a few problems with your swing.

weak grip....right hand too roled over towards the left side of your body (assuming your a right hander)... rotate it back around so your fingers face teh sky.

you might also be standing too close to teh ball.

also. make sure your shoulders line up with your feet.. you probably have your feet facing to the right and your shoulders down the line u want to hit.

you could also have the ball too far forward in your stance. try placing it back towards the middle of your stance.

also. try looking at your target moving your head only.. don't rotate your upper body.

get some clubs and lay them down so you can see where your feet are pointing, get another club and lay it across your chest so you can see where your shoulders are pointing..

    hope this helps.

Can you explain a bit more about your ball flight please?

Does it go straight right or does it curve right?

Does it move off left then loop back right?

Does it move off straight then curve right?

The ball flight is almost straight right. I am connecting with the ball with the club face open.

OK so you are pushing the ball, here are some things to look at:

Ball position: The ball position needs to be right so you can hit the ball at the bottom of the swing arc. The ball is likely to be too far back causing you to block the shot.

Stance: It may be too wide restricting the weight transference on the forward swing.

Body alignment: The feet, hips and shoulders may be aiming too far to the right.

Posture: You may be sitting too far back on your heels. Put your weight on to your toes more.

Swing: The body may well be sliding into the ball rather than turning through the shot. This means you are unlikely to be turning your hips as you should.

At the driving range, stand at the far right bay and hit to the left of the range. You won't push

In addition to above, you probably need more spine tilt at address. If you stand to upright, the club naturally goes to far inside. With more spine tilt, it will help the club go back more on plane. To get into this position, stand straight up, put the club across the front of you hips and tilt foward from the hips holding the club. Your buttocks should now extend beyond your heels and your back and neck should be in line. don't slouch. Hope this helps mike.
