  • Simple Fix?

    Hello All,
I am away from the game of golf at the moment, but still try to hit as often as possible. Although the only thing I can do is hit into a net. I am having some problems with my swing and was looking for any drills to do to help fix it.
First, I am pushing the ball. I believe that it may be because I am not starting the downswing with my hips, but instead with my arms. I am not sure if this would prevent me from turning the ball over, but it comes out right and stays there.
Second, The ball comes out very high. I believe here that I am not extending the club far enough through impact. I feel like the club is at the bottom of the swing for a very short time. Almost like it pops the ball and starts up. I hit my clubs very high and much shorter than I used to and believe this is the reason. Can anyone give me some drills to help me get a lower/straighter ball flight? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jimmy,

A push can be caused by a few things: Playing the ball too far back in your stance, dipping your shoulders, or sliding your hips; for starters.

I lose balls right when the ball creeps back in my stance. I slice drivers, too. Move the ball up, straight balls and draws.

As for the high flight, it sounds like a classic case of flipping/scooping through impact. Unfortunately, I've never had this problem, so can offer no solution.

      Hey Jimmy,

Put on a watch on your left hand and put a pencil underneath the watch but on the back of your left hand. Now just make slow practice swings htrough impact if your problem is scooping. Hope this helps.

a push is also a more glacing blow and open faced so will ten to go higher

I disagree to an extent. A push is a straight shot. The face is square to the swing path. The contact can be (and in my case, usually is) very solid. Now, since the club is still moving through the ball, the face is usually held open on a push, resulting in the high slice. But yes, the open clubface increases loft, creating a higher, shorter shot.

Set up. Place a soccer ball or water bottle 18 to 20 inches behind the golf ball and just to the inside. Then place an old shaft in the ground a few inches just to the outside of your golf tee. Hit the ball with out stricking the soccer ball. and finish with your right shoulder in front of the shaft in your fallow thru. Should help you stop pushing the ball. This keeps you from coming from to much inside. Good luck.
