  • RE: Out ot in swingplane

Hi there. My consistency has increased my last few rounds, but I have this slight fade. The other day I video taped myself and spotted that I have a slight out to in swingpath. Adding to that I saw that my swing plane in the backswing and the downswing is not the same. I have a much steeper downswing and then the clubhead goes on a out to in swing path.

I've looked at some pro videos and noticed that the path of the club on the back and downswing is almost perfectly the same.

Any tips on how I can correct this?

With a two plane swing the back swing will be steeper than the downswing. the down swing requires the arms to drop down from the top so that the original address plane can be restored.

On a one plane swing the two planes will be at a similar angle but the down swing plane will be parallel and lower due to body naturally swatting as it rotates back.

Your problem is probably due to you starting down with the shoulders.

If your consistency is there, I would not change your plane. You can play with a fade most players do. If anything work on coming from the inside. Get a wood dowel 3 to 4 foot long, put one end in the ground at an angle where the other end is a few inches above to ball. Set up and hit the ball, if you come over the top you will hit the dowel rod.( poormans inside approach)

If you can control the back hand/fingers from swinging around and allow the back hand to come down in the swing you have the problem sloved.

What happens when you swing the fingers around you send the club to the outside and the shoulder turn in the downswing forces you to cut across the ball.

Under July's Monthly Tip, I gave G-1's little drills and I just notice it on the rotating screen. Then come back here please, just easier on me not to have to post the same information twice.

Some professionals like to have the little downward pressure on the way back in the backswing, some like me will add the little pressure in the downswing.

Learn this and if you have a upright swing, you no longer need the pump drill to practice the downswing and if you swing on an angle, the lead hand comes around and the back hand provides the downward force.
Interestingly the right palm pushing down on the handle is how ive moved to the angled hinge 'hitting' action. In that the trail hand does not come around (and pull the shoulder with it), it moves down, as you suggest, and pulls the trail shoulder downplane
