    hi jeff
no reason just wanted a wedge in between pw + sw and a lob style wedge i heard they produced more spin and they were advertising 53&59 deg's so i went for those.
funnily enough played my best ever bunker shot with the 59 on sunday im in a bunker 6 feet below the hole and 25-30ft from the pin which i cant see i threw the ball straight up at the pin and heard my partners applauding i ran up the bank to see the ball 2 inches from the hole!
    a fluke im sure
can recommend pelz's short game bible a hefty read but well worth the money

        Re: Which Wedge?

        Hi Jeff,

The difference between a 59 and a 60 is, well, 1 degree. Keep in mind that any club can be bent. My durometer is a 59 that I've bent 1 degree weak to 60 degrees.

The Pelz method has your lead arm working like an arm on a clock. Take the lead arm back to 7:30 (usually hands just outside your trailing thigh). Take the lead arm back to 9:00 (arm parallel with the ground). Take the lead arm back to 10:30. These are the 3 arm positions (limited backswing) that you use to control distance on your half-swing wedges. There's no coil, just a synchronized turn (shoulders and hips) back and through. So, these 3 arm positions, coupled with a full swing, gives you 4 distinct distances for your wedges.

You can even take this theory one step further, and grip up or down on the club, with the same arm positions eg: a 7:30 with a normal grip using my 60° wedge results in a 28 yard carry. a 7:30 with gripping down to the end of the grip with my 60° results in an 18 yard carry.

        Just little things like that.

Slats - you've discovered something that I've always known, and that Pelz reinforces - your pitching wedge isn't just for pitching, your sand wedge isn't just for the bunker, and your lob wedge isn't just for lob shots. All wedges are useful for all situations. I actually use my 60 out of bunkers most of the time (as I find that I'm really, really good at short siding myself when it comes to bunkers).
