  • Opinions on offset drivers?

What do you think about offset drivers?
I'm determined to change my swing plane this winter so I can hit a draw, but in the meantime I've ordered one of these.

If it works for you, then it works for you so be happy using it.

My personal feelings are that everybody can hit draws, even if inconsistantly, so the ideal would be to use a neutral biased driver and find out how to hit it properly.

One option could be to use something like the TaylorMade R5 or R7 that allows you to move the weights and create the bias of your choice.

The easiest way to hit a draw is to try to turn your chest away more from the ball on the back swing as it encourages your hands to come through faster and with less hip slide.

Not sure I would get one without trying it first. But I would second the comment that if it works with your swing go for it, though if I was making swing adjustments I would wait till I worked out I swing I liked prior to making a lot of major purchases.

        Re: Opinions on offset drivers?

I've had a couple of range sessions with it (the second one was much better) and my first impressions are as follows:

        a) I found it impossible to slice with, but I could still hit an impressive pull if I came over the top too much (my no.1 fault)
I don't mind this as it reinforces the thought that OTT is the worst thing to do and my swing plane is slowly straightening out.

        b) Nothing ever goes to the right of where I'm aiming (quite a comfort)

I found I hit my best drives when I went to a baseball/10 finger grip and hit it as though I was hitting a topspin drive in tennis - even though this is nearly all right arm, this swing thought seemed to cause the correct moves ie hips go forward, top half of body stays back, clubs comes through from the inside = long and straight.

i can see getting a weight adjustable club, but now a permanent offset.

if you learn how to swing properly in the future, then you will have to hold the club open to get a strait shot. and it makes a fade harder to do.

            hi
i find no diffrence in using both, once you get use to setting up with an offset driver you stop thinking about it and get on with it.
its the same with the ping offset irons you just never think about it.

I am still not sure what is meant by flailing of the hands, is that what croker teaches?

                Don't buy one.

I bought the cobra M speed offset. Great driver, but I now need a new driver as the shaft is too whippy, there is too much offset and the loft is too high. When I bought it, yes it stopped me slicing, but after a few lessons with my Pro, I can draw the ball at will by coming from an inside approach and closing the club by 1-2* at impact.

My advice, buy a real driver, get some lssons.

In a pin ball machine you have a spring loaded handle the ball is at rest against. When you pull the spring loaded handle back it it moves the ball forward.

Opposing Forces of the Handle and ball.

The part of the handle inside the machine has a round head the ball is laying against.

Behind the round head is the spring.

When we pull back on the handle the spring is opposing the round head the ball is laying against, the ball comes backwards from gravity.

Pull back and let go of the handle and it will move the ball forward.

In golf you can have opposing hands and at the top of the swing. The imaginary spring of the hands will release the club and forces the body into action just like the ball in the pin ball machine.

Passive ball until the force strikes it, passive body in golf until the force effects it, Educated Hands.

What is one of the bodies opposing forces?

Shift everything to the right side and the lead hip becomes the opposing force to keep the body in balance.

Golf is nothing more than opposing forces that are maintain during the swing until we are ready for release.

If you grip the club 50-50 in each hand you have no opposing forces, both sides are equal. Grip pressure being equal.

Grip the club 60% in the Lead hand and 40% in the right hand. You have opposing force because one side of the grip is stronger than the other, but
what did I say, the opposing force must be maintain until release. The second we start to pull down on the club or a little past the second the hands have equal pressure in the fingers.

With opposing forces it does not matter what backswing path you swing on, the clubface in the downswing will always return to square just like the spring loaded handle in the pin ball machine.

The plane of the swing, what we do with our Educated Hands at Address and freely swing back.

The swing is simple, all we are doing is releasing our spring.

Peter, Mark and I have different ways, but at impact they should all come out in the wash. Different Ways are Human Nature.

I spoke with Peter and he does not understand how you can swing outside to in and square the clubface, I do not know about Mark.

And Now, I bet, I have you more confused.

Hands are the spring and the body is the ball waiting to be moved.

I never thought flailing could be so complicated ....... LOL

it sounds complicated at first to learn....... but once you learn how, it makes the golf swing sooooo much easier and more powerfull and accurate. you only swing thought will be unloading the club at the top or resisting direction of change that one thought for the whole swing and then the club releases automatically.

I've been doing that for years, and the only advice I get is to swing like Jim Furyk

                        Re: Opinions on offset drivers?

There are two ways to hit a draw.

One by hitting the ball with a pronounced in to out swing. The other by aiming your stance in the direction you want the ball to start off and pointing the clubface in the direction you want the ball to finish, then making a normal swing down the line of your feet.

I prefer the latter as this is the best way to shape any shot. What ever you do don't mix the two, or you will be spending a lot of time looking for your ball or playing three off the tee.

Come on now! The power of positive thought, YOU CAN do it and will get there, you just have not worked it out yet.

I explained to you the concept that the butt end of the club determines and governs the shape of your swing, if it stays on the extended ball to target line through the back, downswing and follow through and only comes away at impact you will get on plane and path.

Just spend a little time thinking that through, if you want some additional assistance then send me a message?
