If you are a fan of Ben Hogan I highly recommend the DVD Ben Hogan: The Golf Swing: Improve Your Game" by Jim McLean.
Jim Mclean breaks down Hogan’s swing beautifully, talks about Hogan’s books, speaks with people who knew him, and goes over Hogan’s swing in great detail and in an orderly fashion. As someone who watches many golf DVDs I think Mclean is peerless. Jim McLean’s “Eight Step Swing” is also a good DVD. He shows you eight check points in the swing and what to look for – and the “death moves” swing flaws that you will be unable to recover from. I think Mclean is forthright – I haven’t heard him use words like the “secret” to golf is… as thought there is something out there which you are not privy to.
I watched Aj’s video The Truth about Golf and it was painful. I watch these videos on my computer – and I have a word processor open – so I can type info in and review it later – 15 minutes into AJ’s video and I still haven’t typed anything – he is doing card tricks, talking about the solar system the sun, earth and towards the end he is playing the guitar and singing. You could have put what he had to say on half a video and I think all of the theatrics were deliberate – so you were buying three tapes instead of one – to give you the impression that there was more in the video than there actually was. AJ was hitting off a Tee without transferring his weight and people were ‘impressed by his power” give me a break – he is on an ELEVATED TEE ! Leadbetter is not bad – Golf’s Greatest Tips – or something like that – and Buch Harmon’s Ultimate Golf Series would get a C grade at best – since it is so short on specifics.
Now this brings me to my final point. I think it is a shame that all of these videos are on peer to peer servers and you can download them for free. The same networks that have the downloadable music have these videos. I bought Jim McLean’s since I like to support work that I appreciate!
