club face position

I understand the grip and the club and ball positioning and i know which side of the club hits the ball but how do you set the position of the club face.

Is it always the same or does it vary?

Is there a way to set it on the ground so that when you take your grip the face is at the proper angle?

Sorry if this sounds dumb but I am a beginner in the truest sence of the word and I hope with your help I can get started right.
