  • Trapped under body on downswing

    Hi,
Started a thread last week detailing my overswing, swatting and poor rotation problems.
Excellent advice given so now I want to update my latest thoughts.
I managed to shorten the swing a bit by ensuring flex in left knee and take-away with sternum not arms.
However I am still getting stuck under my body on the downswing causeing me to stand up and swat at impact.
How can I stop getting cramped and having nowhere for the arms to go unless I lift my body.
I try to rotate my hips but the same result is realised...high, chop, cut.
    Any ideas ?

Mid-section...keep a taught tummy. Stick your rump out a bit like sitting on a bar stool and standing tall. This setup is essential to keeping your spine angle consistant throughout the whole swing. Getting lazy and relaxing that part will easily break down any swing.

I find this drill great for getting the downswing flowing so the legs, hips and upper body flow with a synchronised motion. Try it and see if it helps.

Setup with a narrow stance and place the ball about an inch ahead of your left foot (Righties). Make a smooth backswing and just as you are about to start the downswing allow your left foot to step to the left side of the ball. In reality your left leg should start to move just before you reach the top of your backswing.

As your weight naturally settles on your left side fire your body through the ball to your finish position.

Repeat this drill a number of times and try to pick up the wave like motion that will start to come after a few shots.
