  • Help with practice Schedule.

    Hello all,

I have viewed this forum for over a year however, this is my very first post. I need some help with a practice schedule I'm trying to put together between now and april of 2007.

I work monday thru friday. I just found out there is a 9 hole executive course two blocks from my office that has a putting area and chipping area. I also have a full gym in my office building. I have one hour for lunch. Here's my issue:

I'm trying to find out the best schedule balance I can put together. I want to become a short game wizard, so I need help putting a schudule together on days to go practice my chipping and putting and days I can workout. I really like working out but I really want to get my golf scores down by half (20 handicap currently).

Also, I can't go to the gym or golf course before or after work because I drop of my children in the morning and its way to dark when I get off work. Can you guys help me?

    Re: Help with practice Schedule.

if you want to get good you have to practise your short game as much as possible. Im talking 5 mins for lunch, 55 mins for golf. Gotta work hard

        Chunkybunnie,

I heard some good advice once, and that was to work on your golf game daily. Whether it is 5 minutes or 5 hours. Do something everyday to improve your golf game.

Sounds like lunchtime is your best time to get to the range.

Here is what I propose; alternate working in the gym and going to the range. One week go to the range MWF and workout TTh. The next week reverse it, go to the range TTh and workout MWF.

Now, when you are at the range, have a purpose. Do not just go and hit balls. If short game is your focus, then putt for half an hour and chip for half an hour. Next time, chip and work on getting out of sand traps. Don't go and do the SAME thing everytime at the range. Vary the routine.

As far as the gym goes, I have read a good book by Cindy Reid called "Get Yourself in Golf Shape." It gives some good ideas on exercises to do to get yourself in shape. I like it and I'm using it.

Do something everyday to improve your golf game. Even if it is standing in the kitchen while cooking dinner. Practice your full swing. If you have room at work, practice your putting during your break. Muscle memory is what you are trying to create. Maybe buy a cheap putter and leave it at work. (Just an idea)

        Hope this helps. Good Luck!

          Re: Help with practice Schedule.

          Hi Chunkybunnie
I agree with Buckshot's advice - it seems the most practical schedule, given your circumstances. I used to have the same family duties with driving our boys to and from school, so I encouraged my wife to get her own car. Now we share the "driving duties", and I can now go to the range or even play 9 holes after work.
