  • use of lob wedge

Currently, I tend to use the lob wedge only to pitch over say a bunker to the green .......normally say in the 5 to 15 metres range.
Whenever, I try to extend the distance, the club tends to cut into the ground causing fat shots.
Is there anything "technique-wise" I can do to avoid this and promote a better strike, without ploughing into the turf?

Make sure your ball position is in the midle. It is easy to try to move it forward thinking that will hit it higher. You have a LW, that will get it up plenty.

Next is to relax the grip and shorten the length back, but still fuly set and release the wrists. Wedges like to be struck with a decending blow, and this does the trick.

Bottoming out too early is a cause of either the upper body hammer move, or the a reverse-pivot. So get your feet together more, (about a foot apart) and stay still in the spine-angle.

Also make sure that you're accelerating through the ball.

        hi
when i hit my wedges and its not a full shot i always say over and over "soft hands, soft hands" it keeps my hands and fingers relaxed and and i always swing to a full finish even if just a 7 o-clock backswing, it works for me with all my wedges, and helps clear the mind too.

how much bounce is on your LW.
my first LW only had a bounce of 4. and it would slice into teh ground if i screwed up and it was hard to hit it long. but to hit it you would really have to focus on a very parallel shot across teh grass.

i now have one with a bounce of 12. it's heaps easier to use and i get a lil more distance with a lot more control. i can now hit down on teh ball and not be frightened that i'm going to take a dinner plate sized piece of turf out of the ground.

If you only use your LW from 15m-5m why not carry an AW (if you dont already) about 52 degrees and get more use from your 14th club
