  • Bad Round Yesterday

I Just Started In June And Played 18 With My Brother And Uncle Yesterday. It Was Lagoon Park In Montgomery, Alabama. ( I Live In Atlanta) The Fairways Were Very Narrow (less Than 50 Yards On Some) So Needless To Say It Was A Very Frustrating Day Because I Am A Slicer Off The Tee. I Scored 109 When It Was All Said And Done. 16 Of 18 Holes I Was To The Right In Woods Or Thick Rough. With A Neutral Grip The Ball Started Right And Curved Even Farther Right. When I Tried A Strong Grip It Shot Immediately To The Left. Iron Shots Were Mostly Hitting The Ground Behind The Ball Resulting In Topped/weak Shots. Other Iron Shots Were Low To The Ground With Little Distance(especially Middle Irons). I Am Wondering If My Swing Problem Is Less Grip And More Swing Path (out To In)?

sounds like your trying to hit the ball, don't hit the ball swing thru it, work on getting weight to your front foot. try making a definite pause at the top of your back swing. put some video on here and we'll get it fixed for ya

Sometimes, at the start of a bad round, it seems that we get downward momentum – bummed out, and it is difficult to turn things around. When I am confronted with a new course or very narrow fairways, I am tempted to leave my driver and woods in the bag and use a 5 or 6 iron, and when I don’t do that I wish a had!

Recently I played a round and the course was full of Geese – there were Geese droppings everywhere – my pull cart wheels were covered in it, my shoes and the ball. The course was really wet and I didn’t want to take a divot – since I didn’t want any “splash” on me. Some of my golf balls were so dirty, that I just dropped another one. I wanted to go home, but I stuck it out. The back 9 was narrow and Geese free – I lost a few balls to the woods and after that I pulled out my six iron and knocked my score back down.!

          Re: Bad Round Yesterday

I have been working on my slice and looking at alot of instruction in Golf Digest and just tips on the net. I played yesterday morning on a pasture course near my house that is in very excellent shape. I havent been to the driving range in a while so I really wanted to keep a good attitude and not get too down on myself if I screwed up. I hit my drives very straight. I reminded myself to stay in control with my swing and swing easier than normal, which helped me control the club on the downswing. I also reminded myself of turning my back shoulder through the ball to get my club head straight. for me it was all about getting my body in the right position to hit the ball. I played bogey golf today and really feel like I am getting better everytime I go out and play. I had a rough go of it putting. I 3 putted way too much out there. That is the next step in getting my game better. But you may try those tips of controlling your backswing by having a good tempo and also making sure your back shoulder moves through the ball and towards the target. Tell me how it works out for you. Does anyone think that this is good advice? I am far from being some type of instructor but it works for me.

            Re: Bad Round Yesterday

I played nine hole course yesterday and played my ball flight off the tee. I aimed to the left of the fairway and let the ball drift back to the middle. At worst I was on far right side of the fairway. I did not lose much distance either. On my irons divots point left and I am almost certain I have an out-to-in swingpath which causes me left to roght ball flight. If I make a strong grip it does not slice/fade as much but still does. I will work on swingging from the inside at the range but for now at the course I will cheat by aiming left of the fairway/target. However, this sounds crazy but now I'm not sure if I want the ball to go straight as I like the left to right flight b/c it seems I have more control. But I want to eventually fade by opening the face not because of a faulty swing path.

Bad round today,I played in a medal this morning out of bounds from first tee ended up with an 8 and I never recoverd ended up with a 92 gross I play off 14, I seem to have the same trouble,my drives nearly allways go to the right so I tend to aim up the left of fairway and prey it comes round the correct amount, when you all talk about a strong or weak grip what is the diference.I am right handed and it seems if there is any trouble on the right I end up in it, I am throwing myself into the vast knoledge which I know is out there.GET ME STRAIGHT

Hi slats, I normally show 1 knuckle but have tried 2 it seems the more I turn my left hand over the more uncomfortable it feels and I have a feeling it turns back on the down swing because when I show more knuckles I sometimes hook left. Anymore ideas?

                    hi john
i am no expert but i would think your grip is way too weak.
you should see 2-2.1/2 knuckles on your left hand,
check out on here or the web for a correct explanation and then stick it
believe you have too go through that uncomfortable feeling for a while before it stars to feel right.
learn the proper way to grip and then just practise it 5-10 mins a day it will soon feel more comfortable
                    hope this helps

                      Hi Michael,

I appreciate the frustration you are getting with your slice. Don't feel isolated though, most golfers start with a slice and many never lose it.

The earlier you understand what is going wrong and how to fix it, before it really gets ingrained into your muscle memory the better. It sounds to me you have a few basic swing faults that should be easy enough for a professional coach to help you with. Get booked up for a short series of lessons and take it from there.
