  • Standing Up At Impact

    Hi,
I noticed in my recent swing video and still pictures that I loose the angle of my spine when I start my downswing.
At impact I am almost standing upright.
    Any drill or advice ?

    hi bananaman
ive had that problem in the past.
i concentrated on keeping some knee flex, keeping my eye on the ball and slowing my downswing.
beforehand i was swinging to fast which caused me to lift up at impact

Everyone has experienced this at one time or another; its being overly focused on hitting the ball rather than making a smooth pass through it.
One drill: take the club back very slow and on the downswing, feel as if you are passing the handle of the club down the target line. This will help to give you the feeling of staying down/committed to the shot and will have your hands ahead which will preserve the lag longer.

do you have a video of your swing from down the line, ( a mirror could work but hard to emulate impact in slo mo) make sure you keep your tush line. if you have proper posture and if your wieght is properly balanced on balls of feet (not toes or heel) then you should be able to maintian you tush on that line through out the whole swing, that should help keep spine angle. you could not clearing your left hip (due to improper weight balance or other factors) and since your left hip is in the way you want to hit the ball your hip has slide and you posture striatens as you lose your spine angle.

he is a good site demonstating tush line http://www.inpractis.com/tech-classic.php look at steps one through ten down the line

but tush line is just one of the posablitities of losing spine angle, hard to say w/o video

You may also be sliding/swaying instead of rotating in the BS. I fight this all the time and it creeps in every now and again. By sliding right on the BS you will have to slide left in the BS which makes you stand up and thin the ball or block it right

Rotate, dont slide and as has been said keep your angles. Hit some balls with your feet together and work up

            Hi,
I dont have a pic of my impact but you can see this "still" of my downswing.
Swatting and getting trapped on the downsing is a problem as with standing-up at impact.
My typical ball flight is too high without penetration.
Can anybody offer any advice .... looking at my pic and understanding my troubles ?

Check your weight transfer. It looks to me like you may not be making that happen and its throwing your timing off.
