  • Help out a friend of mine . . .

He's OK some of the time but his killer shot is when he hits it off the heel low and left, if he's lucky it fades back in, if not, it's in left trouble.
In extreme cases, two or three times a round with the driver he smothers it left along the ground 20 yards.
Is this a shot pattern you recognise?

At a guess it sounds like an extreme case of coming OTT where he's lunging his whole upper body through the ball

Try and have him work on the pump drill over and over and over to get him coming from the inside with his back to the target longer - stop him roundhousing his shoulders so severely

it sounds as if he is delofting the driver hence causing a low ball flight. Pulling the ball is from an outside in path. Would like at at one of 3 things
        1) Grip - shutting the club face is usually caused by too strong a grip and may need to weaken it.
        2) Ball position - should be aligned with the left armpit. It may be too far back in stance
        3) Alignment - check to see not too far aimed to the right hence causing a pull. Hope this helps, mike.

Oh yes indeed I do and pnearn is right (at least in my case) it is caused by a severe OTT lunge at the ball intended to smash it miles.

Fingers crossed, the extreme OTT move only really manifests itself now for me with the woods which I think is as much mental as anything else - and when it happens I revert to a 6I or utility a la Aftford.

After a fair bit of work the drill that worked for me was

which is similar to the pump drill.

God, do I ever recognize that pattern. Everyone is right. Over The Top outside to in swing. It is shot killer.
