  • How to hit a "late draw"?

    Hi,

sometimes a ball flies first straight and curves in the end of the flight. How can you hit a "late draw"? Why does it not curve all the time? Or does it, but we just don't see it?

    hi
when you hit a ball the back spin takes over at first and its not till that fades and the side spin starts to come in does the ball curve right or left. the more back spin the less the ball turns but the ball goes higher.

Ball spin effectively changes the ball in a wing.

I have attached a diagram that shows what things will affect the ball flight.

"Late draw": initially the ball follows number (3) so there is some curving but outweighed by the balls velocity (forward motion), but as the ball slows down (4) the spin becomes the larger effect and the ball curves more that it travels forward.

I don't think that I will ever need a "late draw", but it would be nice to know how you hit it. Is it ball a little back to get more backspin, a little more from inside to out than normal draw, but club just a little shut to make the ball start to fligh straight?

Someone clamed that Sergio hits "late draw". I do not know.

When viewed from the top counterclockwise side spin causes the ball to go left.

So think about it this way :

A lot of side spin = hook
          Some side spin = draw
Very little side spin =late draw
          no side spin = straight

So to get a late draw you would need very little in-to-out and the clubface closed to the clubhead path but open to the target path.

I thought that back spin would make the shot go straight and at the end the side spin kick in and turns it left. So more you hit down, more you get back spin and later the turn starts to left.

I do not have a possibility to test the theory.

I'll take your work on the idea of little side spin. (Wouldn't want to hit a hook anyway.)
