Re: how to maintain proper spine angle to impact

    Jambalaya:

Thanks for the link with the photo and image of the head resting on the pillow. This is exactly what I was trying to express in my earlier post.

Many golfers pull their head up to a perpendicular alignment to the ground too early because that is how we are used to viewing objects. You can and should train yourself to watch the initial stages of your ball flight with the 'head resting on the pillow'. If you where to straighten up the head too early your spine goes up as well.

Another very important aspect of this is the action of the hips. By shifting slightly with the left hip to start the downswing, an angle is created which allows the right elbow to come in close to the right hip on a clear inside path to the ball. This is why good players have their hips open at impact and the shoulders more square to the target line. The hips have lead the way.

And don't forget the golden rule. The left wrist is straight at impact so the right wrist must be slightly cupped at impact. all good ballstrikers have this look at impact.

Re: how to maintain proper spine angle to impact

      Hi,

I just fixed my straightening up at impact and now I actually can have too much angle. (something I thought I would never do)

What I thought about and saw on video was that I was rotating my hips fine *but* I was doing it on the wrong plane. I was rotating my hips on the horizontal plane that my legs are on and not the plane my spine is on. As soon as I made the change my spine angle at impact was the same as at address.

This is just something that worked for me and perhaps it's your problem too. Have a look on camera and see if it is.

      Cya.

so now try changing the angle between your clubshaft and left arm, make it close to a straighter line, but not straight, and seee if that helps. People would do themselves some justice if they went to the range and sometimes had sessions where they altered all their alignment positions so they could find the set up that is best for THEM. Experimentation is a good thing, unless you are hitting it good

I kinda see that with my swing. Rotating the hips more on the horizontal plane will cause one to bring the club way inside I think.

I know of no evidence that turning the hips horizontally will make the club come in from too insde.

Can you quote an authority or a rational reason for that belief?

            Jeff.

No, I am just struggling with the idea of rotating the hips and shoulders in different planes as Sevenball suggested.

Try placing your head against the wall. Then with force, bang it into the wall several times. This drill works for me.

Try a few short swings with the lead foot on tip-toe... An old pro taught me that drill.
