  • Homemade swings

    Hello

I have a self taught-homemade swing and this goes back to my right arm post awhile back.I have seen on other posts about creating space on the backswing with the right arm and then return the elbow to the side on the downswing-fine and dandy.I'm just curious why there is a headcover drill for the right arm (under the armpit) if we're NOT trying to keep the right arm close to the side.I got my swing grooved again and is nothing simplier than keeping my right arm glued to my right side-and just rotate around with my upper body(at impact my arm does let go and fires through the ball)-been chipping amazing here lately-stick the right elbow into my side and never let it slide back.(just a swiveling move).

Absolutely nothing wrong with sticking the right arm to the body for chipping, since we are interested in accuracy for the chip and not power. In the full swing however you need both, and the right arm leaving the side and returning accomodates both of these. Sticking the right arm in a full swing reduces the arc, which translate to less clubhead speed. Bigger arc translate to more time and distance to build speed, which translate to more distance, returning the right arm to the side, gets you back to accuracy, in path of the swing, arc and clubface impact.

As to the headcover drill, never heard it used for the right arm, just the left arm in right handed swing, goes back the old connected swing theory.

like gonavy said, keeping it too close will slow down your swing. The right arm does add speed and imagine in thrwoing a baseball what would happen if you keep the right arm close in the wind up. But if it works for you and keeps it straighter, go for it.

Right arm headcover drill---Perhaps this is what separates a 3/4 swing from the full swing?
