  • Help - why does this cure my sh**nks?

Every now and then - and normally it's after a prolonged period of playing really well and good ball striking, out of the blue, I get an attack of the sh**ks - thay always seem to appear at the range hitting off the mats and don't normally transfer to the course (thank God)

Now, the thing is, I have worked out what to do to cure it (for me) - this is to hit balls with my feet together and magically they dissapear!

Now the thing I want to know is - what am I doing different when my feet are together? - if I knew what it was, I could work on it!

    Any ideas guys?

    Thanks in advance

Your shanks are probably caused by an out to in swing path. It is easy to let this creep in at the range when you are swinging the same club many times.

When you have your feet together it encourages you to drop your arms from the top and keep the club on and inside path, it is difficult to come over the top like this as it will put you out of balance.

also you might be flaring the clubface open at the start of the backswing...
This is a definite shanker for me.
Feet together probably makes you focus more and have to concentrate on balance so you have a more compact swing...

might be that when you shank you do so because you slidelunge too much forward on the downswing and this may cause the shank. But when you put your feet togethor you limit ythe amount you slide back and forward. This can make your movement more rotary and decrease your chance of shanking.
