Re: My free online review of the golf swing

Dr Mann, I think every golfer in the world should send you $10. What you have acheived is a great service to the golf community. It has been my primary goal to achieve the technically correct golf swing. After having done a lot of research on the web, I would put your review as probably the most comprehensive and scientific analysis. This is something that really will take a long time to process and apply all of this great analysis to my swing. But fascinating reading none-the-less. I would love to see the same type of analysis on chipping and putting too, if you have nothing better to do with your spare time

BTW, I understand that the V1 swing analysis program is excellent, but does anyone else happen to know of a similar program that will run on OSX for those of us who have advanced to using Macs

        Thanks for the kind comments.

I am fortunate that I don't really need the money to support my simple lifestyle, so I would prefer that beginner golfers keep their $10 and spend it on buying another bucket of balls at the golf practice range.

As long as I get episodic positive feedback from beginner golfers, who appreciate my work, I am likely to continue expanding my website offerings. I will probably first complete my work-ideas on the full swing by discussing faults/fixes, drills etc. before I think of writing about the short-game.

        Jeff.

          Hi Jeff,

This looks like a really good piece work. Thanks

I've only read the section on the 'downswing' so far and think it is excellent. Most other things I have read always mentioned hitting the ball from the 'inside' but your explanation is much better.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest.

Keep up the good work and best of luck with future endeavours.

jeff, you asked so I will give
this website looks to me like a cut and paste. very vague and general information that you can find in most books. it looks like a compilation of most books. what I would say is if you dont understand G!, which many golfers dont, then you dont understand the swing, which most golf instructors dont. while most people will enjoy the initial reading, there is very little real substance. So most people who read this will not make much of a gain, but some may. I was once a "know it all" when it came to the golf swing, but the more I realized what the golf swing was all about, the less I claim to know. that is my opinion but when it all comes down to it I really dont know a whole lot. You asked for opinions, that is mine, I would also say do more research and learn to understand people like G1, but that is only my perception, I could be totally wrong

You are fully entitled to find my review of no value.

You are correct to say that it is a compilation of known/traditional golf instructional material. That's exactly my intention, and I stated that intention upfront in my introduction. I wanted my free, online review to be entirely based on traditional golf instructional teaching and research (from the SLAP authors). You state that it is vaguely expressed. Hmm! Again, I will say that you are entitled to your opinion, but I actually thought that my review would be criticised for being too detailed and too didactic, rather than for being vague.

By the way, who/what is G1?

              Jeff.

Re: My free online review of the golf swing

well jeff, on another website you could not tell the difference between two backswing postions, that were very obvious. Do some research, learn to hit the ball mutiple ways, and have fun. But really the last thing we need is another Harmon book. People try to control the downswing and think about the downswig, but about the only movement you can control in the whole swing is your initial move back, maybe the first inch or two. From there on out is should be close to automatic. you dont find the slot on the way down, the slot is found as a result of something else. Position golf, like the 8 step swing, is useless and if you had $100 and where in my area I could have you prove that to yourself in about two minutes. The golf swing is just like life, all the flashy stuff gets all the glamour, but the true meat and potatoes of it all has no flash, just good ole fashion fundamentals. But like I said, I dont know much and these are just my opinions. Maybe Cmays/G1 will chime in if you ask him, he may say I am full of it and if he does, I would suggest you take it from him, not me

Shootin4par - Your personal bias is apparent, and I don't think that it necessarily does any forum member any good to learn that you are very opinionated. You are free to have your personal opinions and admire your own set of golf instructors/teachers. I'll stick to my own set of opinions, and I certainly don't feel any need to justify the legitimacy of my opinions regarding the issue of what represents good quality golf instructional ideology.

                  Jeff

                    I will expand a little
Yes I am very biased but why am I that way? A year ago I went to the doctor for a very rapid heart rate and pre diabetes. and what did they say? Here take a pill. Welll medications have side effects so I did not want to take them. I started doing yoga, changed my eating habits to mostly organic foods, worked on some breathing exercises and started focusing on positive things. In less then a year my restig heart rate went down over 20 beats per minute. So while people in this world take pills, I will take the responsibility on myself to change my lifestule habits. I am very biased that medication is not very good and my hard work was and is a much better path to go

I teach austistic kids, last year I had 2 kids that the teacher before me could make no progress with, in less then a year they were doing things way beyond anythign they ever did in the previous 8 years of schooling. Teachers before thought these kids were limited in their abilities, but me and my personal bias did not believe that. well this year I have 3 kids that have made significant strides so my biase served me well there. I am biased that NO ONE can put a limit on what some one else can do.

Last night at the driving range I was helping out a young lad who is going to school to learn how to teach golf. I showed him demonstratons that he had not seen, but where handed down to me from other people, and has was very thankful. I showed him how to hit the ball with three completely different swings, showed him how moving the ball around to the toe or heal and only changing your intention of what you want to do can affect the results. After searching the swing for 8 years I gave it up for the most part, one reason why I am not on here anymore. But I met with an instructor who showed me things in a different light, he was not what people would call conventonal. His main focus was on the set up and how and why we should set up a very specific way. If you watch me try and learn this swing, which is new for me, you might htink I cant hit a golf ball very well. But that would be false cause I got two golf swings in my back pocket that I could play with and I would never shoot above an 80 if I dedicated myself to either of those swings, but I want to hit the ball 300+ on the fly with little effort, so I choose to not use either of those swings and work towards the swing I want. for me the modern golf books did nothing and this man was outside the box so to speak. SO am I biased that most all golf instruction books are ****, yes, I have read at least fifty differnt ones, I have yet to see a book mentioned on your site that I have not read. They all pretty much got me no where

So call me biased all you want adn I will say thank you for the compliment. I am very biased in the fact that our socioty takes too many pills,, does not eat right, most teachers are bad teachers, most instructors of golf have no clue, and the fundamental principles are where all our answers to life are. As I have stated before, this is all just my opinion. Nothing more and nothing less. If you get something out of it then good, if not I will be ok and life goes on. You asked for criticism and I gave it. If you did not want it then you should not have asked.

What a load of self opinionated twaddle!!!!

Ignore him Jeff, this is his style, he likes to sit back and snipe at others, I think it's his modus operandi and due to some kind of deep seated insecurity.

Shootin, don't set yourself up as some kind of all seeing eye, just keep taking the pills (or eating the vegetables).

                      EDIT:
Regarding Cmays, Jeff has set out his research for others benifit, I am sure Cmays will comment if he sees fit and will not need your promotion.

Regarding instructional books, I take it you are suggesting that the likes of Hogan and King had it all wrong? Give us a break!

                              Shootin,

Congratulations on being self empowered. You have been lucky so far. I am a doctor who is a realist, and if there are natural remedies that do better than drugs then I'll promote them. I'm glad that you didn't need them. But not everyone is as lucky. Most people need them, because the natural remedies are not strong enough. You can't apply your experience en mass

The same with your swing. Congratulations on being so proficient. Jeff's very good instructions weren't absolute but a guide, for most people to start with and tweak as needed. If you can shoot less than 80 with your 2 or 3 swings then fantastic. But you are the exception. The masses will still need conventional instruction to begin with at least.

Perhaps you should document your theories on the perfect golf swing and publish them. It will make for a good read I'm sure and add to the information already out there on the web.
