I was browsing for something else and came upon this video just now, which explains as well as any instruction I've seen, as to what I've always believed about the downswing.

It also shows the pump drill towards the end, which someone mentioned earlier on. It should be clarified that many people misinterpret the "pump" as being dropped straight down, whereas it should be "dropped" on plane. I used to make that mistake, and what that does is disrupts the flow of the swing. It was always Tom Watson's favourite drill. Both Faldo and Price in their heydays with Leadbetter also used this drill a lot, so they have said.
