  • Lower body drill

For this drill you need an 8 foot peice of soft nylon rope and a stake for the ground.

The 8 foot rope drill is: Loop the rope on the ground with a tent stake or around something. Put you hands on each end of the rope. Think that you are standing inside the center of a clock. The ball (stake) is at 12 o'clock, your back is at 6 o'clock. Your left hip is at 9 o'clock and right hip at 3 o'clock. Pull the rope and move your right hip from from 4 oclock to 10 oclock. Relax and let your hips move but not sway. Keep your head (eyes) on the middle of the rope. Work your knees toward and away from the ball, but never lock the knees. This is the lower body action and shoulder turn.

The rope can be shortened for iron practice. Left handers move left hip from 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock.

This drill was in a book called, Hit It Hard, The Modern Fundementals of Power Golf, by Mike Dunaway, 1992.
