  • copycats don't play

Alot of what I read on here is just rehash of things some members got from books but of course they are passing it off as their own and I suspect they don't play or at least if they do, not well.
How many of us on this site actually post from experience and how many of us play at least 3 times a week? How many of us have single digit handicaps.
This should weed out the charlitans

What is it with you, do you take pleasure in rubbishing others or do you need to inflate your ego due to some kind of inferiority complex? If this is the best you can think of posting then forget it, it's sick.

I tell you what "Takinitdeeep" or what ever your real name is (Why is it you cant use it eh!) I never, never boast about my personal ability but believe it or not (and I guess your cynical trait will not allow you to understand this) I like to help others from my long experience of playing golf and the high standard I set myself.

I would just love to meet you for a game and see what you are made of, not a lot I suspect. Why don't you do us a favour and just leave this site and take your high and mighty attitude with you.

I make no pretenses about my experience (or lack thereof), when it comes to both golf instruction (which I shy away from unless I have had experience) or clubmaking (and I admittedly follow the Wishon method of fitting, and often post what I have learned through reading material by Wishon as well as Maltby and Jackson).

TID, you're right - there seem to be few instructors here. I notice something when they interview PGA players. They ask them what they're thinking about at certain points in their swing, eg impact, at the top, etc. Most often the answer is 'the target' or 'nothing'.

For those looking to build a swing, these answers are useless. They need a swing mechanic to continute to build their swing. Yes, plenty of times people are offering the latest Golf Digest tip. Or something they read in a book.

But even instructors start out with a book based knowledge base.

Hate to burst your bubble, but everyone is just offering rehashed ideas, even Tiger Woods is just regurgitating what he learned. The best we can hope for is just another view or interpretation of what we read or learned which might help someone, because we all learn differently.

If I suggested you play cross handed, you might think that was an original idea, you would be wrong, there was a professional that played that way already, Lee Elder, but I wouldn't try to teach that method, there are very few new ideas in the golf swing. I teach the proven acceptable method used by most golfers in the world, it keeps getting rehashed because everybody has their own interpretation of it.

          Exactly.

TID, if you really are a good low handicap player then why not share your knowledge rather than criticise those that try to?

Sure there are lots of theories on here on all aspects of the game, some quite dogmatic, some contradictory, some work for me, some don't, some posters I understand, some baffle me, but this sites not unique in that regard; you just have to be selective - not necessarily in who you read but in who you "listen" to.

Some hard work, coupled with advice, and encouragement, from this site has taken me from being a hacker who only rarely broke 100 and tbh normally a fair bit worse than than that, to an averagely poor golfer who can now break 90 (just ) in winter conditions and is looking forward to consolidating in the 80s come the summer before moving on to the next target.

Was any of the advice new? Ofcourse not but one piece in particular solved a problem I'd paid a pro £££ to solve without progress and which had me on the verge of packing the game in - which makes you wonder who the charlatans really are, but thats a different thread.

On reflexion I wish I had not reacted to TID the way I did, it was a bit of a knee jerk reaction. Not because I think any more of his posting or have any different opinion of him, only that I should have more restraint and I apologise to the other members for that.

I would like to reinforce the comments of GoNavy, Lowpost and Robin in that there is not really anything new in what is said to help people here, it's just that some members have specialised or more knowledge on certain aspects. The reason we like this site is that we are able to help each other and gain something from others opinions and views.

Once again members, my sincere apologies.

I wont accept your appology cause the guy needs a dose of reality of who he is and how he treats people. It is one thing to disagree and state it, it is another to be hateful to people. maybe navy, lowpost, or robin will accept it, cause I wont

If a man (or woman) feels the need to apologise, I'll usually accept their apology.

Brian, the message was right, the tone was wrong.

                  Re: copycats don't play

FWIW, IMO, the standard here is "two wrongs don't make a right..."

Whilst TID's original post is clearly well out of order, and understanding the need to vent frustration, there is probably nothing to be gained in lowering one's own standards to his...... (if he has any at all...)

Bottom line, to me it appears TID was indeed trying to "stir the pot". Just ignoring the post altogether was probably the order of the day...

Now, that said, in addressing the original sentiment of the original post, just because I can't play to a single figure handicap, I don't feel that necesarily means that my opinions on the various aspects of golf are any less valid. I'm not here to impress anyone and will happily offer any advice that has worked for me in the hope it may work for the recipient as well.

Appears that is the generally held belief of all who post here, TID excepted...

                  Puts soap box away.......

                  Cheers

                    hi
i have lots of help from lots of people on here and a lot of them high handicapers, there advice is like a pill it's up to you if you take it or not, i like to try diffrent thing to see if the work and will take any help i can get, if it works great if not then all i have lost it time.
most on here will go out there way to help others but sadly some seem to only want to put others down and rubish what the say, we all know the ones i mean. this is a help site and the aim is to get us to play better and have fun, golf is a fun game and played by mosy of us for plesure not for gain.

I agree, I read a lot of stuff that is just way off. People don't know what they are talking about. I don't claim to be a Golf Genius but I am a pro. golfer and I have been playing my whole life. It is my passion, I have read every book possible and Play every single day. I think we should all just be careful what advice we take to heart and just like with your doctor....get a second opinion, haha!

                            Well TIP,

How about putting your name down for our comp which I am organising for everyone here on GTO. Then we can see if your advice will help people for real.

                              Hey Mark,

I think I caught something about the comp when I was working away. Can you update me on the details please?
