  • Starting the golf swing....

    Hey all.

Firt, I wanted to say thank you to the folkes who posted the very helpful info about the golf swing on the main page.

I just started working on a golf course, and one of the perks is free golf. I can play all day and not have to pay any of the standard fees.... (but the food and beer is extra.. LOL)

The last two days Iv been spending 5 minutes in the morning after my AM duties (usualy moving tee markers and doing greens inspection, and moving cups). Speeking of which, always be nice to your maintenance people. They are incharge of the greens usualy, and they have the choise of where the Pin will be. On easy holes (no traps) I usualy put the Pin close to the edge. Just to keep things interesting for the golfers......
    ANYWAY
After doing all that, I have been stopping by the Range and grabbing an old 6 iron and whacking any range balls laying close by.
I can usualy nail 3 or 4 out of 9 and get them where I want them give or take a few feet. The rest just go all over the place. (incluing bouncing off the equipment and missing me by inches on the rebound....)

I read over the tips (check to the left here <---- "The Golf Swing") and started trying is out with my new, but cheap Knight 8 Iron. I gotta say, the grip feels really weird. Iv kinda adapted it to suit me. I have long fingers (play the guitar really well).
I got the stance down, but its a matter of remebering. I got the swing okay. I can just tickle the floor with the club as I swing, in the same place every time.

Now I gotta put all this into practice. Hopefuly, Ill be out and playing full rounds soon, rather than goofing on the DR.

Thanks to this web site for the free info!.
And THAKNS to the guys and gals who take the time to pass on the info.

Some balls go where you would like them and some don't.
This is GOLF do not be so demanding.
Most errors occur within the first 3 feet of the club going back.

Some typical errors that can occur are fanning the club face open.(This is very common), some players take the club back and close the face(this is less common)better players tend to do this.

If you are aimed too far right of the target, you will snatch the club to the inside, and come over the top.

If you are aimed too far left you will take club to the outside, this will also cause you to come over the top.

This can account for errant golf shots

When the club is halfway back check to see that the toe of the club is pointing toward the sky. This is a square clubface

I already identified when and why my shots go errant......

Its when I "snap" the backswing rather than use a smooth gental flowing movement.
When I Snap it, there is less control, the sweep isnt as smooth and doesnt follow the line I have. Its also more likely to turn into overswing.

Right now, I can wang the ball in pretty much a straight line with my Irons. No problems there I cant blame on my own stupidity for not focusing properly.

Fairway Woods are still a puzzle, but one Im slowly solving. Im getting about %50 on target, the rest have decided to change direction and fly left instead of right..

Driver, this is simply a wrist problem. Im not cocking - uncocking in the right place during the swing.
The longer shaft is creating confusing because of my eye - hand co-ord being so used to the Irons.
But, thats under control. I just have to consentrate on my wrists and I can drive the ball 200 yards+ in a straight line (give or take 10' left or right)
