    Hey

    I'm getting a little confused on views of ball position-I usually play the ball a ball back of center with most of my irons and sometimes even further back than that.I was looking at Hogan's book and seems to me that he played everything a few inches just inside the left heel for all clubs just moving his right foot back.

    Questions:

    Is this ball position for people with weak or neutral grip?

    Or is this ball position for a flatter swing?

    Will this ball position work with a strong grip?

    And would this ball position make somebody actually get through the shot?

    Last but not least is this the normal ball position? (exceptions for specialty shots).


    I know you golfin' fanatics will do good on this one.

      Hey Brian,

      Good stuff there,

      I think I have been playing the ball back too far causing me to come into a little too steep (deeper divots than what I want) I think I will work on playing the ball left of center and see if I can't shallow out my divots bit.Also causing me a faulty release-why I can't extend through the swing.

      I could be wrong on this but if I keep my weight on the inside of my right foot on the backswing with the ball left of center heck that could solve a few more of my problems..........lol-We will see tomorrow.

        Dawg,

        Using the method I explained you can play the ball centre of stance or forward in stance by moving the right foot forward or back.

        For example, mid irons and wedges you may want the ball centre of stance. The ball is say 3 inches inside your left heel, move your right heel back three inches behind the ball and it is now centred. For fairway woods you want the ball slightly forward of centre, keep the ball 2.5 to 3 inches inside right heel, move your right foot back 5 inches behind the ball. For the driver move the right foot back just outside your right shoulder.

        You need to experiment with these distances but the above examples will be a good start (Only move the right foot)

          I went to the range today and actually hit the ball straight( I usually play a draw with all clubs) I guess the club was coming in square for once....lol
          The only thing I didn't like with this new ball position was I did hit a few thin(not skulls but not solid) and I think I have been setting up with too much weight on my right side and thinking that I'm balanced. Is it necessery to have more weight on the right foot at address? Kinda weird but if feels better if I keep more weight on my left-but then again this could be because too much on the right foot to begin with.

            Thin shots will probably be due to you either standing too tall, or lifting in the downswing, make sure you keep your knee flex and head at the same height through the shot. Ensure you are hitting down into the back of the ball with mid iron and wedges, sweeping the ball away with long irons and fairway woods.

            Your weight should be centered for mid irons, biased to the right foot for driver and long irons, slightly to the left foot for wedges.

              Why do you believe that the left arm and clubshaft reach their maximum length at impact?

              You also stated-: "The swing plane bottoms out in line with your sternum (the bone down the centre of the chest)."

              Do you mean swingplane (what swingplane) or clubhead swingarc? If you mean clubhead swingarc, why do you believe that it bottoms out in line with the sternum?
