  • Help - Driver Woes

    Hi all

I have spent most of the winter months focusing on my Irons, ensuring I transfer my weight correctly, and hit down on the ball, apart from the occasional miss-swing where I take a divot before the ball (1 in 20) I am very happy with all my irons, all go straight with a nice ball flight, if I do miss hit I get a small fade. The problem I now have is I seem to have developed a slice when using my woods, am I right in assuming that the basic swing is the same for both my irons and my woods, could ball position be a factor ? Any advice would be welcome

Sure ball position could be a factor. I would think more likely that there is a little flaw in your swing that shows up in a more pronounced way as you use longer clubs. You can get away with the flaw using the irons because shorter clubs are easier to control and manipulate. You can kind of save the shot more easily. So yes, the basic swing is the same with different ball positions and of course the reach from using a longer club. I would hesistate to tell you something very specific because it could be a number of problems: casting or over-the-top move, grip, wrist movement. If you could be more specific about what the ball is doing it could help. Have you read Jeff Mann's thread "The Perfect Gold Swing". He goes through all the mechanics of the swing in detail which may trigger a useful thought for you. People also post a video of their swings here all the time. That is sure to illicit some useful comments.

Actually Jeff's thread is titled "My free online review of the golf swing" and is a thread below this one on this page.
