    Hi

I just started playing the game say 25 days.My instructor says i apply lot of power in my shots.A) with driver i get a carry of 250/260 and ends up close to 300 after roll, is this a good what is the maximum one could get
    from a driver.

      First, welcome to GTO.

Second, an hour and twenty minutes doesn't often give folks time to respond. This board is big, but not huge.

Now, as to your question, the answer is 'it depends'. It depends on how fast you swing the club, where on the clubface you hit the ball, whether or not the face is open or square or closed.

Assuming that you aren't interested in Long Drive (where whoever hits it farthest and keeps it in the grid, wins) the more important thing you need to know is how far do YOU carry each club.

250 yards is what I would consider average for the average athletic golfer. I personally carried the ball 240 (GPS verified).

But to answer your question, I believe the max distance with a driver is set at 438 yards (current long drive record)

I've heard of a guy on the Nationwide Tour that hits a 7 iron 225 yards.

I hope some of this helps.

In that case you are hitting the ball further than most tour professionals, VJ's average for example is 277 yards. Does it go straight?

Is that VJ's average carry? Or total?

250 and 300 yds is very good for someone just starting. I would guess most of the long hitters on the pga tour are around 340 total these days. It is hard to tell just by looking at the stats, since that there are usually a couple holes where they hit 3 wood every so often which factor into the average.

But guessing that for the pros the longer hitters are somewhere around:
              320 with driver
              270 3 wood
              230 3 iron
              220 4 iron
              205 5 iron
              190 6 iron
              180 7 iron
              165 8 iron
              150 9 iron

But it varies a lot from golfer to golfer and wether they are drawing the ball or fading .....

But there really are no maximum distances and if you want to be good at the game it is more about knowing the exact distance you hit each club (while still hitting it far) and not about hitting it longer then the time before. On the other hand by practicing you should pick up swing speed and increase distance.
