my normal shot is pulled to the left dead straight caused by coming over the top i have been practising the pump it drill but most of the time im hitting way behind the ball, when i do hit it it goes dead straight with a great contact sound ,what could be making me hit behind the ball most of the time ,i feel that my hip is moving forward in the swing instead of my usual around turn of the hip which i think is making me come over the top in my old swing if only i could stop hitting most of them fat with this new routine

You are not staying centered and possibly swaying on backswing. When you do this, it makes it almost impossible to get back to center from swaying too far behind.
Try staying centered over or just barely behind the ball and then turn your left shoulder under your chin. This should produce very crisp shots. The rest is up to grip and alignment as to where the ball goes.

      Re: hitting down

There have been many posts in the past on this, but I still think that it relevant. That pulled shot you talked about is very well defined in Jeff Manns website. If I start to get tired on the course I get this shot, it simply is that I am starting my swing with my arms rather than my lower body. Get your body out of the way and this shot will disappear for good. Get too agressive with the lower body turn and I get a fade. I practise this a lot on the range. Recently I have been striving for a reliable straight shot, which I find to much more difficult to obtain than a draw or a fade.

I personally think the ultimate shot is the dead straight shot, draws and fades are easy.
