  • Favorite training aid?

How many of you use training aids, and what's your favorite one?

I just bought Leadbetter's SwingSetter yesterday, and swung it for a little while last night. The results seemed pretty good. I learned that I was setting my wrists way too late in the backswing. I hit a few balls into my practice net after working with it, and seemed to be hitting them well.

I love my SwingSetter. Its a great warmup club if you don't have a chance to hit balls before a round. The formed grip is nice. I like the plane pointer as well. I rehearse my "transition" over and over to make sure I am staying on plane. I also like hitting a variety of shots with it at different release settings. I will hit 1/2, 3/4 and full shots to make sure I am releasing the club at exact proper moment.

What I noticed is that I set my wrist pretty early. I need to let them a bit more relaxed and let the wrist set happen more naturally.

I've tried the Medicus and Momentus. Medicus is nice because it really keeps you on plane. Momentus is VERY heavy and helps complete the proper backswing and follow-through.

I like the Inside Approach as well. Definately helps with swing path problems.

I've actually become quite fond of a 4'x1' mirror and some masking tape. It ensures optimal spine angle, shaft angle, stance width, ball position, and is great for checking positions.

In lieu of that, I really like my Practice Tee. Alignment and ball position aid, comes with a little mirror that sits on the thing - really made my wide open shoulders glaringly obvious.

I love my boomerang putting system, only "training aid" I've ever found to work, I just wish my floor was level.

I wonder if any of you have tried the orange whip golf trainor. I was trying it at Edwin Watts this past weekend. "It will improve your golf swing and provide a core-muscle workout focused on the golf-specific muscles". You can get the low down at www.orangewhiptrainer.com. Check it out.

the thing that has helped my swing speed immensely is the weighted swingspeed device

                  Guys,

So many training aids, I'm a bit of old school here, just a couple of rods on the deck for alignment and thats me done.

If you don't set up straight your chances of a good shot are reduced dramatically, so I always work on alinement.

                  good stuff.

                  Ian.

Mine are three, 3' metal yard sticks. They help with alignment, feet positions, in to out swing practice, and ball position. Best of all they only cost $6 for all three of them. I use them all the time at the driving range, chip/pitch practice area, and the practice putting greens. GJS

Suunto G6 Wrist computer (and watch).
It measures swing speed and consistency, and calibrates to inside 2% deviation from Trackman data.

How long you can hit your 7-iron is irrelevant. Whether you can hit it the same distance every time, is important. The Suunto G6 helps practicing a consistent swing speed.
