  • Killin Me *shaking head

This game is ridiculous with things changing from one day to the next. Monday...swinging fine. Still making good contact with decent accuracy and distance. Go out on Tuesday...driving everything wonderfully...reaching or passing the 150 marker on most holes. But I couldn't make an approach shot...at all! I lost 13 balls!!!!!! I'm not claiming to be a pro or anything....far from it, but I've broken 80 at that same course before.

Maybe it's time I took a step back and paid another instructor for a tune up. Maybe I need to radically change my swing. I don't know!

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Alcohol?

    hi weeeee
have you got a repeatable preshot routine in place?
you can gain some consistency in your round by having one.
maybe a trip to a pro would help.
no offence meant but 150 yd drives doesnt sound like your swing is quite right unless you are using a 6 iron

No No....to the 150 yard marker on most holes...like you know...389 yard par 4, I'd be about 20 yards or so beyond the 150 yard marker (the "to the center of the green" marker).

Something has definitely changed though because just Monday I was hitting my irons fairly well, but couldn't hit my woods off the tee. Now, I can hit my woods off the tee fairly well, but can't do anything else. It's frustrating to say the least.

Edit: Yeah. My preshot consists of putting on my glove, slowing down my breathing, getting set, taking a practice swing to "trim the grass", and then doing that same swing.

I think you had a valid thought in your post, you just need to combine it with Slaters.

A pre-shot routine that involves alcohol.

Stand behind the ball with club in left hand beer in the other. Take a couple swallows, hand beer to playing partner (make sure it's not one that will drink your beer). Lift club up to waist level and grip with other hand. Pick a line and walk-in to the ball. Then take your swing.

I think step 2 will be your most productive

I like Mr. Slater's idea. Beer has done wonders for my game over the years. I would also like to add that when you start teeing the ball up on top of the beer can, you should probably switch to water, or soda. Your preshot routine could care less what type of drink cantainer you are using........at that point.

Seriously, a good preshot routine, a decent one piece take away, a decent grip, and keeping the same easy tempo/timing swing will solve alot of your frustration. Some days you will have it, other days you will not have a swing. You have to learn to play with what you have that day. Eventually consistancy will set in. GJS

One more thing, WEE. A possible fix for you to try:
              1. insure your grip is at least a little strong with left hand
              2. make sure you turn your left shoulder back under your chin and coil on backswing-this gives you momentum forward on downswing
              3. Stay with the shot and only swing as hard as you can stay in balance
              4. Don't get too far behind or in front of the ball before impact
              5. Finish your swing through impact

Dont judge yourself off of a single round of golf.
This is a difficult game and sometimes you just dont have it.
Fatigue and your state of mind can wreck a good swing on any given day.
Go play another round before tinkering too much with your swing.
