  • Golf Pivot

    Hello, this is paulvic.
I currently start my downswing by casting from the top and therefore my club does not get into the slot area. I know I am supposed to start the downswing with a pivot to my front leg but I am having trouble getting a comfortable move to do this. Does anyone have a good pivot drill that will help me get into the proper position on the downswing? I am left handed.
    Thanks in advance.

This is the best one I have ever seen. The first link is to the backswing and the second is to the downswing.

I second Jbrunk's reply. Brian's articles on grip, set-up, pivot, where to hit the ball (inside aft vs. rear), etc... are all the best there is. And, they are free.

He has a video you can download for like $20.00 called "Confessions of a former flipper". I think this video is essential and one of the very best videos (content wise) I have seen pertaining to golf instruction.

I get most of my help from Brian's site but...I come here because the info Greg offers is also top shelf. I got the "secret" and a lot of help with the "right hand" drill.

Good to see you 30. I would agree about Greg, heck the right hand drill was what got me started to hitting the golf ball the proper way.

          try this drill:
          - normal setup
          - start the backswing
          - as you reach the top of the backswing, move your left foot next to your right foot
          - then while at the top of your backswing (full shoulder turn), move your left foot back to the left (back to setup position)
          - begin your downswing

This drill will show you that the initial weight shift is executed seperately from the downswing. Most people execute both weight shift and downswing simultaneously. Although this might work for some (mostly stronger golfers), I think that it keeps you from generating additional power.

          - warning: (because of the added power this move generates,) be more attentive of your head movement during the downswing. Make sure that your head stays behind the ball at impact.
