  • Right hand drill

    Hey

Right hand drill showed me something I haven't been doing -keeping that angle through impact. Feels great but my ball flight is lower than normal. Could this be because of holding the angle too long? Or maybe getting ahead of it at impact? Maybe too strong of a grip? Kinda hard to nail it with no video but was wondering if the above could be a factor.

    Thanks

LOWER than normal might not be a bad thing. Is the ball going just as far? Is it going straighter? Are you more accurate?

      Re: Right hand drill

If you are holding that angle longer you are delofting the club, and no, its not necesarily a bad thing. Although getting in front of the ball can lower your trajectory. Just make sure your tailbone is in front of your neckbone at impact.

The loft of the club should also dictate the flight...

No - the lower ballflight comes from having the club delofted at impact. It will also add length to the shot (all other things being equal).

This is a good thing. You're hitting the ball the way it was meant to be hit - compressed, rathe than flipped at or scooped. Impact should sound differently to you now, as well.

.....I think that about sums up the fact that LOWER isn't bad

              Thanks for the inputs

It's going to take a bit to get used too ( the right hand ), because I did flip my hands at the bottom right after impact or maybe at impact the back of my right hand would turn under.(knuckles facing the ground)....Funny because I've played decent golf like that for years, but I think I've gone as far as I can with that move.....LOL.

I never was a high ball hitter-probably a neutral ball flight,so this trajectory will take some getting used too as well as ball position again.

              Looking forward to the challenge.

              Thanks

                Re: Right hand drill

I have been to range the last few days - probably banged out about 350-400 balls with this new move and kinda scary for the reason I have never relied on hitting a straight ball -I would always aim right for the draw and most of the time I was pleased.........Then the draw turned into hooks and pushes (mostly hooks) just an ugly thing to see that over in the next fairway or in the trees ,cactus,.etc......Now the ball is going straight and if it does fall off either way it's no more than 10 yds. My divots are shallower (man I used to make some big divots).......Anyway, I am pleased with my ball striking, I thought I was striking it good until now, I just hope I can trust this straight (straighter) ball flight ......

                Just an update

This is what makes the RHD...straight - straight - straight. Great to hear the updates!

                    Re: Right hand drill

Folks, the RHd has made me a better iron player over the last 6 months or so (Big Thank you Greg!)...I am just puzzled why my driver (Cobra 10.5degree) cannot seem to be as accurate as my irons.

I am getting 2delofted or shut faced, most of my misses are hooks. IMPT question, should my shaft angle be slightly ahead/fwd of the ball At impact?(like how a good iron shot should be?)

                      Re: Right hand drill

I'm another big fan and advocate of Greg's RHD. It definately changed my game, also inside my head.

It just completely changed my understanding of the OBJECTIVE of the golf swing. All the people that has helped me before has claimed that the objective is to get your body back to the position it was in at address. How completely wrong that was.

There are tons of power and a lot more accuracy 'hidden' in this one simple drill.

Back to the question of lower ball-flight, I think it is well established that this is because of the delofted club at impact, but has anybody else also noticed the massive extra amounts of spin?

I used to be completely unable to stop my irons on the green, having to land everything short and roll it onto the dance floor, but since I "converted", I can now hit 8 iron and shorter directly at the target, and rely on the ball stopping fairly dead on the green.

This comes from one thing only: hitting DOWN on the ball with massive power.

It's just a completely different game now.

                        Greg,

I hope I'm not asking for much but since a lot folks like the RHD could you please re-shoot again with the proper lens angle (front and down the line view) for a better understanding how it works visiually. it's kind hard to tell how everything falls in place with the camera angle you have.

                        thanks,

                          Blackheath,

Try this. Pick up a club, hold it out in front of you with your normal grip. Now, bend your right hand straight back as if your knuckles were going to touch your wrist (this also simultaneously flattens your left wrist) now just move the club around your body in an arc using your shoulders.

If you want a higher ball flight, you can play the ball forward of usual or open the face a little.
I personally like the lower boring ball flight.
