Don't get me going on pain!! Last time I saw my doctor I said to him I have broken my leg in three places. He replied "Well, don't go to those places"

Don't you just love doctors with a sense of humor?

Here is a quickie for you...

Playing Football (since this is a UK site, I mean true Football) I planted my left leg and tried to make a quick turn....well my body and upper half of my leg turned, my lower leg and foot stayed in place. Ouch. I crawled off the field with my foot pointing at 9 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock.

Pain was pretty severe, but my leg pretty much went numb after awhile. I get to the hospital and the doctor says with a little sarcastic tone, "what happened here?"

And I, the 16 year old wise a$$ that I am, said...

      "Well, I didn't pay $150,000 for a PHD, but i'm pretty sure I broke my f'n leg!"

6 months later, all was well. I got really luck. I had a clean snap of both bones in my lower leg and they rotated. Still have some pain from the metal plate and screws.

Just thought I would share, y'all know how I love to talk!

          Re: Right hand drill

I am going to try working on the right hand drill again. I have been working on other things in recent months and am finally seeing some good results. I read a tip in Golf Magazine about keeping one's left wrist flat for chipping. Now I realize my left wrist has a fair amount of cup in it for all my shots. Is this a problem?

One of my problems with the right hand drill is that my shaft seems to lean way forward and to get the club head lined up with proper ball position it seems I cannot let my arms just hang down naturally. I almost have to move them forward a bit. If I just hang my hands down and cup that right wrist ala the right hand drill and place my hand on the grip, the club head ends up just inside my right heel. Moving my arms forward seems to put my arms unnaturally outside my shoulders. Arm hang is not centered on my torso. What is the deal there? I would appreciate some comments.

I just did some experimenting with my grip and found if I weaken my grip the effect of cupping the right hand is less. I usually grip the club with my left hand whereby my thumb is about a thumbs width back of the top of the club. Could this be the problem? Seems the right hand drill might be difficult to execute with a strong grip.

            Hi Jamb,

I setup and address the club as normal and take the club away, I only hold the cupped right hand on the downswing.

Spot on Brian - if I'm not mistaken is the same as holding that angle through impact......

                Hey Jam

I have a strong grip too and like Brian said it's not so much leaning the shaft forward-but on the backswing when the wrists hinge-it's keeping the hinge or right wrist angle or whatever you want to call it...lol....through impact.
That's what I get out of it and has been a blessing.

Yes, but one has to cup the right wrist at address though right? I can't cup my right wrist at address with out leaning the shaft forward. Are you breaking the right wrist back on the take away to create the cup? I didn't think that was how it is supposed to work.

It only works through impact. When you get to the top with a conventional swing your right wrist will be cupped and your left flat. Keep that right cup through impact and use your legs, hips and shoulders to rotate the clubface, your arms just go along for the ride.

                      Re: Right hand drill

Does anyone else just keep the shaft leaned forward (Right wrist cup) the entire time? Meaning the clubface is square the entire time, there's no way you can pull it or slice it - I've been doing it this way for a while and am loving my results, all the yardages are still the same, possibly longer with the 'stack and tilt swing' in addition to the RH drill.

I have been experimenting with the wristbreak takeaway from Joe Dante's "New Golf Swing". I am almost convinced that coupled with the RH drill you can create some impressive repeatable straight shots.

I understand what you are saying here but in my normal grip at address both my left and right wrists are cupped. I keep my grip loose, let my arms hang loose, and think I get a pretty good natural wrist cock. I am not really sure if my left wrist is ever flat though. I am thinking I just cock the wrists straight up. Should I get my left wrist flat at the top? The only way I see to do this is to break my wrists back in the backswing.

                            Jamb,

I dont think it really matters that much, just make sure your right wrist remains cocked through impact.

Is the right hand drill intended for all full swings, regardless of club?

every shot except the putter and driver for me.
