Got a friend that says he can only use the "baseball" grip. Is it OK to use a baseball grip or does it lead to problems like casting and etc?

Re: Baseball grip
There is no reason that any kind of grip will lead to any problem. I use the baseball grip, as well as the overlap grip, as well as the interlock grip when I began. None of them promoted any kind of problem that I can think of. One thing that the baseball grip is good for is control.
The baseball grip has all the fingers on the grip, the other methods have at least one finger off the grip. Since all fingers are on the grip, there's more feedback from the club to the fingers. Not only that but the hands are a little farther apart from each other which makes a slightly longer lever. A longer lever means more power to control the club. The disadvantage of the baseball grip, as they say, is the slight loss of distance due to the slightly longer lever.
But I don't care about that, I have more feedback from the club as well as more control over the club. Both of those aspects make up for any kind of distance I may lose. I may not have lost any distance after all. Since I had more control over the club, I could make better contact with the ball and subsequently transmit more power to it which ultimately produces more distance. So, no loss to me.
There are two distinct types of baseball grips, the forward thumb extended or folded. I prefer extended because it links my hands on the grip, making them act as one.

Re: Baseball grip
I've also tried the most common grips (baseball, interlock, overlap) at various times and I can't say that baseball is better or worse than any of the other.
The only thing for me was that I had a tendency to hook the ball with baseball, but that is individual. Overlap seems to fit me better, so that is what I use now, but there is absolutely no reason for him to change if he is comfortable with it.
To each his own.

Re: Baseball grip
when i started playing golf i had to have a baseball grip as my right hand wanted to stay open.. this was from playing squash for 5 years previous to me taking up golf.
after 6 months as my swing changed i was starting to over rotate.
my swing now is somewhere between the tradition overlapping grip and baseball grip.
my right palm sits over my left thumb, but my little finger sits below my left pointer finger.
for me. if i try to overlap or interlock. it feels like the club is going to fly further than the ball by slipping out of my hands.
