  • Iron/wedge Problems (50 yards out)....

Alright im a 10 handicap, just turned 17, and ive been playing for about 2 years, and never had lessons. and ive been playing really well lately shot my first 77, but one day at the course, i started hitting these erratic slices (huge cuts) that go about 30 yards tops, mainly with the wedges.. i cant seem to find the problem, any ideas about what it could be? Comments would be appreciated... why would this problem arise, all my shots have been striaght, or slight boring draw. I tired standing closer-farther away from the ball...tried turning the club over quicker(lead to flicking), ive tried keeping my arms close to my body.. not hitting my wedges(doesn't help) ... Most of all these shots tend to be 50 yards and out..around the green im fine

It's a bizarre one - particularly as you obviously have no problems with general ball striking.

I was thinking, if you wanted to create that sort of slice shot intentionally, what would you do? Obvious way is to hold the club face very open and cut across the ball. Now, if you're doing that, I guess you'd readily know it!

One other point, though, on short wedge shots such as this, you shouldn't be releasing your hands as you do with full shots. Basically, you shouldn't let the club head pass the hands. That way, you have much better control over the distance of the shot (stemming from much more reliable contact).

Wouldnt it be fair to mention the ball position for this distance of wedge shot.? The more forward the ball in the stance, the more elevation and less distance. After that, its a case of keeping the hands in front of the club, ( I Think)
